Really enjoyed doing this interview w/@learnovate.bsky.social - we got into my approach to teaching comics as always hands-on & emphasizing play, drawing as thinking, my crankiness about gen-Ai, the importance of constraints to creativity, the necessity of struggle, tennis, & the DJ-movie Scratch!

a pretty good way to gauge the conversation is whether people are talking about harm or risk harm is about what's happening now already risk is about what could maybe happen in the future and basically the whole ai cult scene is in agreement that possible risks are more important than current harm

This artistic render of what the Earth could look like when the sun becomes a red giant brought out some feels. I remember walking to kindergarten when my then step dad told me (incorrectly) that the sun would explode one day. I was five. It had a lasting impression you could say.

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

This was a truly impactful realization for me. In the health communication literature, there's "disparate impact frames" which are effective if the (majoritarian) audience actually cares about adverse outcomes affecting people who don't look like them. We saw that this was not the case.
