So-called "evidence-based medicine" in a nutshell: doesn't work, recommend it anyway. They don't care. No wonder zero progress occurs in illnesses where this failing approach dominates. If this were a commercial product it would be banned. There are no adequate checks & balances in health care.

This is very much what our current cadre of rebellious middle-schoolers in government positions wanted: to obviate the role of public health specifically and scientific expertise in general Everything that isn't gender is COVID.

i think one reason the whole "brain retraining" scam refuses to die is because there is always a fresh batch of scared, desperate new patients who want to believe there's a magic way out of illness that will work for them specifically.

Different biological processes cause Long COVID. One suspected driver is an autoimmune reaction where the body produces "autoantibodies." Instead of fighting infections, these autoantibodies attack the person's own healthy tissues. Researchers have identified them in some Long COVID patients.

if you had a nosebleed in 1654 the suggested treatment was to hang a scary-looking toad around your neck so that the blood would race back into the heart out of fear.
Screenshot of text from "The Mysteryes of Nature and Art" by John Bate- Against bleeding at the Nose- Take the root of a Red Nettle, and hold it between the molary teeth of the same side : this is an excellent remedy : Also mosse that -groweth at the foot of an Ash, is very good to be put up into the Nose. Likewise the pouder of Toads. Also if you tye a live Toad in a Net, and hang it about the Patients neck, he will be in a sudden fear, and so the blood will leave his former current, and have recourse unto the heart. Or else a dryed Toad held in-ones hand, or hanged about ones neck, though inscio patiente, from the natural apprehension of a Venemous object, which whiles nature and the spirits seeking to avoyd, they run into the center of the body from the circumference.
