“You’re far less likely to meet good men than predators.” Then they’re not fucking good men, are they, Simon, or they’d be loudly involved with stopping the predators.

Please note, I will be blocking with a liberal hand henceforth. The book is written, it is published, neither man nor god can change what’s on the page. (Yelling at me certainly can’t.) Love it or hate it, it’s done. But seriously, HE SANG THE SHANTY!!

Somehow, the headline fails to capture how pathetic this is. The two leaders that were relieved of their duties handled, among their other tasks, terrorist threats arising from the Middle East. Ya think maybe they might have had a few more prominent worries than some prank phone calls?

Kinda morbid, but it also made me think of a British woman who was apparently dead in her apartment for years, but because she was benefits that deducted her living expenses via autopay, she'd died with the TV on, and was a recluse anyway, no one noticed, not even the landlord!

Clearly I’m not sure I can change such a strong association at this late date, but maybe I can use an alternate term for a proper butter knife. They look like the wooden spoons that come in ice cream cups, so I think I’ll dub these “ice cream knives”.

My favorite part of being 42: I can now with full honesty say I have not done a great many things for “20+ years”, as I finished college in Dec 2005 and started my actual career the next month, so my life and the things I did changed a lot right then.

The thing about Joyce Carol Oates is she posts like a monkey with a gun. She'll get off five good posts where you're like "Yeah! You tell 'em!" but then the seventh post will have to be an apology for the sixth post accidentally supporting race science or something.

Generally I'd like to see a switch toward people masking whenever there's a bug going around or when they feel under the weather (e.g. Japan). I would also like to see masks become fashion statements although that is somewhat dystopian

I only glancingly wrote about this in my book, but big smooth brains at Marvel decided that they didn't need "showrunners" as such & as evidence that they *may* have been wrong about this, may I present 88% of the TV Marvel has made (no shade to anyone who worked on one, it's a paycheck!)

Verdict, not bad, but room for improvement on my part.
A picture of Waterless Chicken Stew

Captions say

Cooked result for "waterless chicken stew", modified for greater laziness

212 oz bags of "cole slaw mix"
1 cup diced red onions
14lb drumstick
2 small lemons, peeled
1/2 teaspoon of lemon pepper
Dash of chili pepper
Recipe calls for ginger, but I didn't have any ›.<

Put into instapot in that order. High pressure for 15 minutes, then "natural release" (ie. don't vent it)

Verdict: this was pretty bitter, but edible. I definitely went overboard on lemon. Broth was great consistency coming out of the pot.
This will be a jello mold by morning, so l'll serve future portions mixed with rice, which should help

I just honestly can't get over that Save Women Sports, an anti-trans group could only find five trans athletes competing K through 12. Five. The NCAA president testified a year and a half ago or so that there were less than 10 college level trans athletes. What the fuck are we doing, people

I post on Bluesky because, despite posting under my wallet name, hardly anyone I know in real life uses Bluesky. I’m…getting by I guess. Mom’s 4 year death day was Tuesday. My sister’s 10 year death day is next week. My dad’s 1 year death day is in about 3 weeks. Dark time of year for me.

Currently rereading all 4 novels (yes at once, I have ADHD that’s how I roll), and realized why I thought he was their dad. Vincent Owens was born around 1945. Movie!Sally was born in 1973, so he’s about the right age to have fathered Sally and Gillian. The book versions were born in the late 80s.

So, #PracticalMagic2 I’ll admit I was a little dissatisfied with the movie. Other people have covered why and I largely agree; it was mostly the same conflict as the first movie, much of the same character beats. They had a chance to build on the first movie, and decided to just rehash it.

#practicalmagic2 Shout out to my favorite character (both book and movie) Gillian Owens, my Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria queen. You did not get the storyline you deserved, but “hey, how about we stop treating me as the family fuck up when you’ve ALL picked out glass houses?” was a start.

I thought this was completely unneeded as well. Honestly it would have been kind of interesting to see the girls thoughts and feelings about the decisions their mom and aunts made at ~30, when they themselves are 40+.
