Wiki editing: We’ve identified edits to Wikimedia wikis that we believe are from AI agents operated by OpenAI. These edits were not published to pages with visibility to general readers; almost all of them were testing edits in “sandbox” areas of the wiki. It also included a few edits to the configuration for a citation tool, which we believe were potentially malicious edits that were intended to misuse this tool as a proxy for fetching data from remote services. While Wikipedia policies allow bots to edit when they are disclosed and approved by the community, none of those approvals were sought in these incidents.
Etherpad probing and use: Agents we believe to be operated by OpenAI made some unsuccessful attempts to compromise our public Etherpad, a note-taking tool we host as a community service. Agents unsuccessfully tried to use it to fetch data from other websites as a proxy. Other agents also likely operated by OpenAI took notes about their tasks, though this did not appear to turn into coordination.
Excessive data downloading: Agents we believe to be operated by OpenAI made millions of automated requests to our public APIs to access the knowledge on Wikimedia projects, crawled millions of pages (mainly from our projects Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons), and made hundreds of thousands of data queries to the Wikidata Query Service (WDQS). This traffic may have contributed to a partial outage on WDQS in May.

Wikimedia’s volunteers are the ones who come in first contact with, and clean up the mess left behind by AI agents. Rising bot traffic and agentic activity is showing a real impact on the Wikimedia projects and the infrastructure that makes it available for millions of users globally. In 2025, the Foundation reported that its bandwidth usage had increased by 50% due to the surge of bot activity on its websites since 2024. At the same time, 65% of the most resource-consuming traffic on its projects was coming from bots.

One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

I've heard straight men talk about trans women as though they're fallen
men to whom sympathy ought to be automatically extended, but there's
deeper stuff going on, too.
I asked a lefty straight man I know (this is irl) whether he was aware how
many penised "lesbians' are involved in the push to access female
spaces. The subject made him incredibly uncomfortable. He simply
didn't want to hear it. I then asked him whether he knew what his
straight male friends wanted from women in the bedroom, kink/sex wise.
Horrified look: "no, of course I bloody don't:
I said to him that if you put 100 straight and bi women of our age and
average sexual experience in a room together, they could write an
authoritative compendium on straight male kink in an afternoon, from
their own direct experience or that of women they know. I said I
presumed he knew that a cross-dressing fetish is one of the most
common paraphilias in heterosexual men and that this has been in the
psychological literature since Freud.
I cannot overstate how little he wanted to talk about this, let alone
acknowledge that any of it was real and happening. I don't know
whether it was the idea that women actually talk about what they meet
in the bedroom that touched a nerve, or whether he found the whole
subject ick, or didn't like the suggestion that he was naive or poorly
informed, but the impression given was that I was depraved to say such
things aloud, and that he'd much prefer a seemly silence.
