What's so cool about this technology is that sounds exactly like the sort of thing Maya Angelou would say. She was always advocating for using AI learning to get 5s on your AP tests. That was, like, her whole thing I'm pretty sure.

I've been seeing this screenshot float around during the ongoing Choosin' Texas discourse to imply the song's not a big deal because she's only sold 6,000 copies, but like, that's not what the word "another" means. Choosin' Texas is 6x Platinum in the US.

it just makes me sad how totalizing and inescapable market logic seems to be for people, because i don't think it's very hard at all to imagine a more stable and equitable system. but a lot of people can't or won't accept the starting premise that american capitalism has been a resounding failure.

I've had a lot of conversations about AI with my Dad, a retired software engineer, and while he's more bullish on the technology than I am (to be fair, a very low bar) one point of his that I strongly agree with is that it should be illegal for chatbots to refer to themselves in the first person.

This is such an important lesson. When you start out, it's easy to believe that success means joining the ranks of the people you already admire, but in practice, it's much more common for success to come from connecting with other aspiring professionals and lifting each other up.

I can't say for sure because I was a child at the time, but I feel like this is a product of the Napster era. The decoupling of music acquisition from physical objects, followed by the draconian overreaction of major labels, broke people's brains about how professional art works under capitalism.
