How cool! I've paddled the Bronx River in NYC. A river otter was spotted in the Bronx River for the first time in over 100 years! Because otters need clean water and abundant fish to thrive, this sighting hints at the waterway’s ecological recovery from being treated as a dumping ground.

If you ask someone today to name the builder of Hadrian's Wall, they would give you a funny look. But historical memory is odd, and right up to the 1800s we forgot who built it. Until in 1840 John Hodgson, an obscure Northumbrian clergyman, published the LONGEST footnote in history... 1/22

That feeling when I can finally post an image I saved a year and a half ago
American chopper meme, with text from Darcy’s proposal:

In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you

If I could feel gratitude, I would now thank you. But I cannot I have never desired your good opinion, and you have certainly bestowed it most unwillingly

And this is all the reply which I am to have the honour of expecting

Do you think that any consideration would tempt me to accept the man who has been the means of ruining, perhaps for ever, the happiness of a most beloved sister?

My faults, according to this calculation, are heavy indeed
