I put in 4 entries into a local camera club print competition (they were for public exhibition in Waterford today). I won the damn thing! (Won the Intermediate category: all 4 shots got top marks). I'm flabbergasted & delighted, and I am getting a medal for winning!

I think this about all measurement - writing a report on any activity or structuring something to get funding and at some point it can become a stat-satisfying and tick box exercise that replaces the Actual Work. Measurement can interfere with process, even as it can keep it on track or “honest”.

It continues to amaze me that we could have technology that works fine for 10 or 20 years that now works badly—that they could improve so much software over and over that itis now terrible software.

There was a time, not so long ago. when banks would not let their names ever be written in red ink, because of the implications of a bank ‘being in the red’. And now people don’t consider the sense or impression of any visual.

So excited to see the cover for my novel based on the life of Irish artist Harry Clarke. It tells the story of his controversial Geneva Window as seen through the eyes of a young female assistant in Clarke’s studio. Set in 1920s Dublin, publishing January with @stairwellbooks.bsky.social
The cover features a highly detailed stained glass panel by Clarke. It features the character of Nelly from Liam O’Flaherty’s Mr Gilhooley. He picks her up from the street and she dances for him wearing only a thin veil. The figure of Nelly is depicted with a head of golden curls. Her pink veil, decorated with tiny star and heart shapes and a yellow zigzag border, seems to float around her. Clarke used a photo of a dancer from the Ballet Russes as inspiration. Cover text reads ‘The Window, A Novel, Catherine Crichton’

I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

AI cannot research, as a tool does not have intention. LLMs have consistently been shown as unreliable/contradictory/fabricational with respect to facts. AI is generally acknowledged as inherently biased. Inherent bias combined with ‘most probable output’ inhibits diversity.
