Between October 8 and October 11, 2026, Ukrainian forces conducted an unprecedented campaign targeting the physical infrastructure of Russian internet giant Yandex, frequently called "Russia's Google". This infographic marks the precise timeline and impact metrics of the three facilities targeted out of Yandex's largest network sites:

• 1. Yandex Kaluga: Marked with a red "X," this facility—with a capacity of ~63 MW—was hit by drones on October 9, 2026, knocking several of its core infrastructure modules offline.

• 2. Yandex Vladimir (Energetik): Marked with a red "X," this ~63 MW facility was targeted on October 11, 2026. Yandex subsequently announced that all operations at this data center were completely suspended.

• 3. Yandex Sasovo (Ryazan region): Marked with a red "X," this hub was struck overnight on October 8, 2026, sparking a fire and causing a total shutdown. This facility is particularly critical as it houses two of Yandex's three supercomputers used to train artificial intelligence models.

But the thinking at NBH presently seems to be "let's see what the private market is doing well, because that's where we're losing audience, and try and replicate that". Madness for the BBC to try and compete with VC-fuelled American streamers and tech companies, rather than embrace its strengths.

I hate this so much. The BBC should be providing good quality, good value programmes that the private market won't cover. You and Yours (which I kind of hate), Thinking Allowed and Free Thinking are exactly the sort of programming that the BBC is i) good at, ii) not haemorrhaging money to make.

I always turn You and Yours off the moment it comes on, but it is EXACTLY the sort of show that a public broadcaster should be making. Because, guess what, none of Global or Netflix or Disney or Sky are going to pick up a consumer rights programme like that, despite its obvious public good.

I think what Badenoch meant to say here is: “British employers are dependent on welfare to subsidise a massively underpaid workforce” - particularly when you consider that around 40% of claimants are actually in work. But that’s just me splitting hairs, I suppose.
