The problem is that people are often born into religions that teach them from an early age that being a good person = following the religion's rules and forcing others to do the same, and that the concepts of empathy/sympathy only exist within the religion's in-group, and out-groups are all damned.

For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing

Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.

That's the thing that confused me when I found out about the connection decades later. The honors side of the floor simply assumed these were run-of-the-mill douchebag frat bros and hated them on that basis alone. I wish I'd known back then, because we would have happily run them off of campus.

I went to school in northern Ohio, and we had a Kappa Alpha chapter that lived on my floor in the honors quad. It was started by the floor RA, who let his frat bros basically terrorize/vandalize the quad every weekend. Those guys sucked even before I learned about the connection to the Confederacy.

Yeah, as far as Plex being a "piracy" app, it's really just a front end for a self-hosted home media center. You can legally rip your own physical media (and I do) or grab files off of torrent sites, Plex just sticks an interface on it. They also stream ad-supported content, like Tubi or Pluto TV.
