Working on a new taxonomy for research methods
Punt square with rows depicting data collection (fun, not fun) and columns depicting data analysis (fun, not fun)

Qual interviews are listed as fun to collect and not fun to analyze while surveys are listed as fun to analyze but not fun to collect

And so after a very brief hiatus, version 0.7.0 of "learning statistics with R" exists. Full rebuild in quarto, stylistic fixes, "epilogues from 2026" to comment on how the world changed since original publication, and as an added bonus, no longer misgenders the author learningstatisticswithr.com

Another example of how useful {geomtextpath} can be, imho. This is from the item category probability plot in my {easyRasch2} package. Most psychometric papers within the factor analytic tradition seem to disregard evaluating how the response scale works, which I find difficult to understand.

If you're an academic and are worried about AI and feel powerless, don't let it get to you. It's actually what they want. They want us to burn out and give up. You can turn off the internet and chill. I promise. All you need to do is stay strong, with breaks of course. From an email I sent an ally:
You all rock. Remind them that when a building is failing all bricks and rebar need to play their role. The mortar cannot worry what the windows are doing — we all need to stay put to keep it standing. Our role at work is to also "stay put" and speak out in the literature and in outreach. We form the protective knowledge core that others will build on. That is why academics paid by the state / with legal protections like tenure etc, exist. To be collectively held to account to produce knowledge to protect from, and inform wider society on, fascism. 😊

Stay strong! Solidarity.

Optimism of the will. Pessimism of the intellect.
