It has been a long time since the Bush era atheist days, but weren’t most of the witch trials done by civil authorities?

There are a lot of factors to consider both ways, and it is really stressful. Contraflow highway routes often restrict exits, and an exit with charging if you need it might be closed. 200-300 miles might get you out of danger, but late evacuees sometimes need to drive 400 miles for hotel.

I think this is right with a slight addendum…I do have anxiety about charging infrastructure requirements for gulf state hurricane evacuations. That is currently my big worry as I contemplate moving from HEV to EV in 2 years.

I am a hobby woodworker, and I agree that this is the way unless you want a new hobby. Billy shelves are the same as the materials cost for me. If you want more stiffness, add an extra plywood back, and to make it look built-in, face-frames look good and can add more rigidity.

If a friend asked me to make them something that works best and affordably, I would do the ikea shelf built-in hack: build a level platform, ditch the cheap back for a quality sheet good (like wainscoting or 1/4” ply), and then attach a face frame to the front, which will make everything rigid

My tax situation got just complicated enough that I either had to use TurboTax or spend a few hours on data entry. That said I think it is worth pointing out that you should respond to any tax notification you get in the mail. The IRS has a lot of repayment programs and fee waivers for normal folks.

There is a classic move in missile range negotiations where a country promises to limit range by simply increasing the intended payload size to fit under some cap. Iran also redirected their solid rocket research to their civilian space program, but the missile tech is fundamentally the same.

I believe you are. You can use deterministic vs non-deterministic as systems terms, and if you draw the border around a system with inputs and outputs, determinism means the same input produces the same output.

Another framing here to leftists is that you get to pick the people in government you protest against. I would say I would rather protest democrats than republicans, though I am some flavor of liberal rather than a leftist.

The TACO cycle: Markets want to price in TACO. But TACO only works if Trump sees stocks tank. So we get a loop: Trump does things → nothing happens (markets already priced in TACO) → that emboldens him to do more → until markets start to think he might not TACO → stocks fall → TACO is restored.

The distinction between identifying as liberal, leftist, or anti-MAGA conservative functionally means literally nothing. It has basically no bearing on someone's commitment to sets of ethical values and their willingness to act on them as it relates to the current domestic situation of America.

After federal troops forced a fugitive slave named Anthony Burns back into slavery in the 1850s, one Bostonian wrote, “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.” The abuse of power radicalizes people. We are seeing that now.

This is much more a mixed bag. The average vehicle has more useful years/miles on the road, side mirrors fail more often than side cameras, backup cameras seem very reliable, but physical buttons for infotainment/climate control are better (and I have them on my 2023 Maverick).

When mergers and acquisitions are announced, the dollar figure in the headlines is usually the valuation of the company at the new price implied in the exchange. Raising $50m for 10% of the company is a $500m deal.

It’s all transparently bullshit and immune to rationality, but if struggling to stabilize half a burning boat to avoid drowning is “getting back in the fight,” what they’re really saying is there’s nothing the survivors could have done to avoid being killed. And that definitely isn’t the law.

Cast iron is just like that (I think it is because of the grain size when cast vs getting elongated when forged). If you smash a cast iron skillet, it is much more likely to break into pieces rather than bend like aluminum or steel.

True for Letitia James, but not for Comey. There is a law that extends SoL for bad indictments, but there is a difference between a bad and no indictment, and Halligan’s are technically not an indictment, though that question can be further litigated, the judge in this case cited Alito to say no.
