Why are there no novelty candidates like Count Binface in Australia? Within reason it used to be allowed, but a protest on ballot papers by anti-Family Court activists in 1998 saw the law changed making it much harder. antonygreen.com.au/why-australi...

Amnesty International put out a major report documenting the influence of UK based anti trans gender critical organizations and their funding. Within hours, GC groups threatened defamation lawsuits and Amnesty was forced to pull it down. Proving the point they're anti rights. Anyways, here it is.

This paragraph gave me an epiphany about Matty Y. It's not that he doesn't understand how politics words. It's that fundamentally, he doesn't understand *what politics is.*
What I would ask of everyone at the table is simply that they respect the diversity of America and the wisdom of trying to compete effectively across this vast and varied land rather than trying to cancel each other. And I would urge people whose passion in life is shifting public opinion rather than responding to it to find a different line of work than electoral politics.

It seems like about 20 hours since Cody and I watched Freo's win streak end in perfect conditions at Australia's greatest footy ground. But they're playing again tonight! Before that game, read our look into why they're good and how they lost.

Fremantle has lost its 14-game winning streak with a loss to GWS, but what are the keys for the Dockers to keep going and set up a tilt at their first flag? Cody Atkinson and Sean Lawson investigate.

This is a pretty funny article because it starts out contrasting Australia and Norway before belatedly at the back end noting that all the cited features of Norwegian sport are present at the junior level in Australian football codes

I think people underestimate the degree to which the founding fathers would be shocked at how modern America has turned against smoking. Tobacco was the main cash crop that they were enslaving people to grow for them on their plantations.

Thinking about the lack of diversity in news rooms, prominent journalists of colour/migrant backgrounds who've been hounded out, and First Nations journalists who've left due to racism and lack of cultural safety and respect. All of this makes it easier for Hanson.

It’s a funny thing. One of the ironies of colonial societies is that their cultures so often reflect, like a fun house mirror, some exaggerated tendency that’s part of the metropolitan-imperial power. Is Australian hatred of the Poms simply a concentration of the English hatred for themselves?

this is the key to understanding One Nation too, and similar movements - it is not really about the practical consequences of migration and there is no point in the left taking stated “concerns” seriously, as the demands would be impossible to satisfy anyway

I regret to inform you that Noah Smith is tweeting about Canada again
Noah Smith
@Noahpinion• 2d
Canada seems like it tried to imitate American wokeness (as it imitates American everything), but wokeness didn't really fit Canadian society as well (because it has no large permanent-underclass minority), so it mutated into something very toxic and bizarre.

I am not saying American wokeness was great, but it was clearly an outgrowth of a chain of previous social movements stretching back 250 years. In Canada it feels grafted on -- imported without understanding or context. So it's driving Canada crazier than it drove America.

To be explicit about this: Wokeness was part of a long chain of American social movements designed to help Black America (abolition, Civil Rights, Black Power, etc.). Canada has nothing even remotely analogous to Black America. So Canadian wokeness is perpetually searching for an analogue to Black America (Indigenous Canadians? Trans people? Nonwhite immigrants?) -- and perpetually confused at its failure to find one.
This is the inevitable result of trying to graft on an ideology imported from a very different country.

After 9 games for every team, we're roughly far enough into the season that clubs can take stock of league trends and what adjustments they could make to adapt. In this piece @capitalcitycody.bsky.social and I dig into some of the trends shaping the 2026 AFL season.

Norway is at ~100% EVs for new sales, but 7 out of every 10km driven in 2024 was reliant on fossil fuels. Cars stick around for decades - so change is slow. Protecting ppl from fossil fuel crises means EVs, yes, but *fast deep cuts* means huge $$ in public and active transport. Speed matters!

Four of the 5 have the word "chew" or the word "marshmallow" in them, so apparently our NZ theme is weird textures inside their chocolate. The two marshmallow ones (BUZZ and CHOCOLATE FISH) are actively bad. Chocolate and marshmallow don't work together.
