We need the opposite of the "youth pastor" meme for Christian adults, like someone to sit backwards on a chair and say "I know you're excited that they say they found Noah's Ark, but you know what else is causing devastating floods and killing off entire species?"

Maybe it's just because I live in Pittsburgh, but I always find it so jarring to hear people treat furries as this weird scary alien thing. It's like someone trying to scare me by saying "Did you know many airline pilots are named *Kevin*???" I know a dozen Kevins, and half of them are furries too.

To the degree Roko’s basilisk does stand in as a proxy for a joint ideological commitment in tech, I think some significant number of tech people implicitly believe in a devil’s bargain that if they help build the global surveillance state they get to be one of the good ones that isn’t mowed down.

People don't object to the *word* "cis," they object to the *concept* of cis. That is, they object to trans women and cis women being treated as distinct but equal subcategories of women, like tall women and short women (and likewise for men).

I think focusing on the "sex cult" aspect of the rationalists, while understandable for attention-grabbing, puts the emphasis in the wrong places. Sure, yes, the rats have sex, and because they're a fucked up abusive cult, some of that is fucked up abusive culty sex, but that's not the focus.

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

I think it's specifically that moral judgment *by those who are socially inferior* is held to be illegitimate. "How dare The Poors criticize me, a Bona Fide Success Man?" The purpose of moral judgment is (in their eyes) to maintain social hierarchies, not to hold everyone equally accountable.

I can only assume the White House left the label for Ohio off this map specifically as a slight against JD Vance.
