good news: my copy of Jonathan Sims’ newest book, The Burn Line, arrived today! very excited to see what new horrors he’s cooked up bad news: it’s from a different publisher and dOESNT MATCH THE OTHER TWO #booksky #theburnline #jonathansims
The front cover of the book The Burn Line by Jonathan Sims. A melting skull is centered against a red background with a green subway train emerging from the mouth.A close up photo of three books on a shelf. From left to right is Thirteen Storeys, Family Business, and The Burn Line, all by Jonathan Sims. The third book is about half an inch taller than the first two.

the greatest tragedy of ai will be all of the kids who never become real artists because they exhausted their momentary hyperfixation by ordering up worthless slop about it instead of scribbling out some beautiful trash on their own and getting the drawing virus permanently

Last night I was down a rabbit hole of why fish can't exist deeper than around 8000 meters and I realized that the deepest a fish has ever gone in the ocean and survived was in a submersible. The fish were people. All vertebrates are fish. I hope this helps with ~~the horrors~~

my grandma called the other day, saying she'd be thinking about me all week because she watched a segment on The Today Show about birdwatching, how it's good for engaging various parts of your brain, etc. which is hilarious in and of itself (1/5)

First Forgotten #LGBTQ #Queer #LGBTQrights #Transrights
Poem, by me, an ode to "First, They Came..."

First Forgotten

First, they came for the queers.
They burned our books,
Banned our presence,
And imprisoned those who would not comply.

When the war was over,
Many were dead.
Those that weren’t?
Still outlawed, still imprisoned.

You don’t remember?
You didn’t learn this?
Of course not.
That’s what they wanted.

They erased our lives
But not our memories.
First, they came for the queers.
But we weren’t part of the fucking poem.

this poem feels apt for the current uniquely american calamity we once again find ourselves in. my empathy is reserved for those who don’t build their entire platform on normalizing the avoidable deaths of gun violence and villainizing marginalized communities. apparently too high of a bar for some.
a page from the book Chrysanthemums and Forget-Me-Nots by arlington winchester. the title of the poem is our blood isn’t your communion

Content warning: religious violence, genocide, gory imagery

They’ll never stop asking me if I believe in god
Even as my insides paint the pavement
They’ll never stop asking you if you believe in god
Even as your body is paraded on the news
They’ll never stop asking us if we believe in god
Even as we beg to the heavens for this to stop

What point is there in believing in a god that allows this hatred to fester and putrefy, allows blood to be spilled in its name
When we are executed at the altar of greed, fury, fear at the eager hands of its disciples
Water from a baptism forced into our lungs, thoughts and prayers as first aid and eulogy

They’re killing us; they’re killing people they teach us to hate from the very beginning, based on poorly translated centuries old mythology and generational tradition. They’re killing us as they did our ancestors, burning our history before we can tell it. History is repeating because the winners are the ones with the money and power; the losers are stripped of their humanity and lives in honor of their wrathful god. We’re dying. From the U.S. to Palestine, from Ukraine to Brazil, from Pakistan to Mexico. We’re dying. Remember & Mourn & Fight & Protect & Dream.

"Understanding" is a pretty beautiful compound word...in this case "under" has a somewhat archaic meaning of "among" (also still present in "under these circumstances.") So understanding is "Standing among" as-in a mind that figuratively shares space with the concepts in question.
