If people are hungry, feed them. If they’re homeless, house them. If they’re sick, treat them. If they’re struggling, provide support. When basic human needs are met, people thrive. Food, housing and healthcare should be given to all.

We could eliminate $7 billion in medical debt with the $70 million they spent to beat me in the primary. Those same corporations and special interests are trying to buy the seat for Mike Rogers now. In November we teach them once and for all: Michigan is not for sale.

I also hate how much religious rhetoric I was around played well w/ dysphoria. “Your life is not your own, you were bought with a price” “Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he’ll make your paths straight” “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak”

Dysphoria is crazy. Before transition, I was so indifferent to being alive. I doubt people knew. Death seemed more like reaching the end of a movie I’d been watching for a long time. A movie that was.. fine? It’s not that I wanted it to end abruptly. There were enjoyable parts. It was just a movie.

Like, I read this article a couple of times to make sure I did not miss anything. They are telling a US permanent resident, who lives in the United States, that he cannot travel to the United States. For no alleged crime, merely for factual speech.
Lawyers for Mr. Ahmed, who now lives in the United States and is a legal permanent resident, said they were concerned that the actions by the State Department pose an immediate threat to his status in the country.

They filed a lawsuit on Wednesday in Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York, asking a judge to intervene because they said Mr. Ahmed faced “the immediate prospect of unconstitutional arrest, punitive detention and expulsion for exercising his basic First Amendment rights.”

The judge, Vernon S. Broderick, issued a temporary restraining order shortly after midnight on Christmas Day, blocking the government from “arresting or detaining” Mr. Ahmed and scheduling a hearing on the case for Monday.

UPDATE2: Late this evening the Coast Guard published a new policy, dated Nov. 20, that re-establishes that it specifically sees swastikas and nooses as hate symbols - not as just “potentially divisive” and states that they are expressly prohibited. Importantly, it says the new guidance published tonight would supersede any other policies out there. We have reached out to the service to get a better understanding of these many changes that were so incendiary - and how they ever got through in the first place.

Tara Copp @TaraCopp · 9h

UPDATE: In a phone call with the @washingtonpost, the Coast Guard said it disagreed with the story and that it considers the swastika a hate symbol -- and that it would look into the new policy changes -- which remove it as a hate symbol.

The growing consensus on Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's order tonight: a horrible situation, handled strategically (from @stevevladeck.bsky.social) www.stevevladeck.com/p/190-snap-wtf
It may surprise folks that Justice Jackson, who has been one of the most vocal critics of the Court's behavior on emergency applications from the Trump administration, acquiesced in even a temporary pause of the district court's ruling in this case. But as I read the order, which says a lot more than a typical
"administrative stay" from the Court, Jackson was stuck between a rock and a hard place-given the incredibly compressed timing that was created by the circumstances of the case.
In a world in which Justice Jackson either knew or suspected that at least five of the justices would grant temporary relief to the Trump administration if she didn't, the way she structured the stay means that she was able to try to control timing of the Supreme Court's (forthcoming) review-and to create pressure for it to happen faster than it otherwise might have. In other words, it's a compromise-one with which not everyone will agree, but which strikes me as eminently defensible under these unique (and, let's be clear, maddening and entirely f-ing avoidable) circumstances.
