You have Automatic Update turned off, right? I sometimes still get lock-screen alerts about updates but I ignore those with ease. Settings: Notifications, maybe?

I'm ignoring iOS 26 on the iPad – it hasn't been trying to give me popups, because I just do NOT do auto-updates ever. The phone just puts a little red dot on the Settings icon.

Publisher might be okay to hear about the typos. Author usually can't do a ton about 'em, I gather. (And even if they can, it's taking their time to... email the publisher. So cut out the middleman. ;)

And then expect to hear nothing back forever and any list you make is for yourself. (But if something of mine had gotten _that_ corrupted somehow, _I_ would want to know. And either way, a "hi, may I?" is way better than "and here's a list, trash author.")

If it's a self-pub author, and you feel that they should know something has gone wonky with their OCR or something, about the only thing that *might* be ok would be "Hi! Liking the book, but a lot of typos seem to have crept in. Would you want me to make a list? Have a good day!"

(If someone wrote fixit fic of my stuff, I would be *so pleased*! I wouldn't read it because I don't want to unconsciously add other people's original ideas to my mindsoup, but I'd be going, "I've got FANFIC! Someone liked the ideas so much they had to tweak what they didn't like! Eeeee! 🥰")

The proper response to being upset about the way a story is written is to write a story of your own that does it RIGHT, be it direct fanfic (“fix-it fic”) or an original that uses similar materials in different ways The latter is like a fifth of my fiction!

This. Even a self-published author is not going to be doing a lot of editorial on some rando's say-so. They have to be writing a new book to eke out a few more bucks. A tradpub book is absolutely etched in stone for anything but *dire* typos. Also, send that to the publisher, not the author.

Humans are rating "conversations" with models in order to train them. I wonder if these new rules are to protect those humans. I think a lot of people don't realise how much AI is just HI in the background. (I did this work a few years ago, it's what showed me AI is not I at all.)
