We could have high-quality ventilation and filtration in almost every school in the country by now. But 45 said COVID was no big deal, and 46 declared it over eight waves ago. Schools, medical facilities, houses of worship, other public gathering places could have way better air quality by now. 1/x
This image includes an image posted by Mike Hoerger.
There is a headline, which I added that reads, "We could have clean indoor air in most of our schools by now, but instead of praising us for our bravery and fortitude and encouragingus to continue forward doing hard things, Biden declared the pandemic over 4 years ago."

The main image is a screenshot of a single moment from a video by Mike Hoerger that is about exploring the reality that the pandemic wasn't over just because Biden said it was.

The top of the image is a photo of Joe Biden being interviewed by Scott Pelley in 2022. They were walking through a huge convention center where the american auto industry was holding a fair.
The attached image is of a graph of the 12 completed Covid surges. The graph goes left to right by time from 2019 to present (2026) and the upward axis is how many million new daily infections are happening. This ranges from 0 to 5 million. There are clearly 12 completed surges. There is a yellow hand figure pointing to the graph at the point of the end of the fifth wave when Biden declared the pandemic over on 60 Minutes.

In the discussions regarding who should get the updated Covid-19 vaccine it is commonly noted that people who are at risk of severe illness should make sure to get it, and though I know most people don’t want to hear it, “at risk of severe illness” includes them too.

The Smallest Possible Pause
How micro-recovery protects an overloaded nervous system
Abby
Nov 15, 2025

Sometimes the earliest sign that someone’s system is running thin isn’t a symptom at all. It’s a flicker (barely even perceptible), a moment where the breath shortens, or the thoughts scatter, or the muscles brace even though nothing “stressful” is happening.

People with Long COVID, ME/CFS, POTS, or other post-viral or dysautonomia-related conditions often know this feeling better than they’d like. Tiny shifts can snowball. And quickly: one unexpected noise, one minute too long standing, one extra task, and the body can tip from “managing” into “overloaded.”

I keep thinking about how often bodies have to shout before we listen.

Micro-recovery is one way of interrupting that cycle. Not glamorous, not time-consuming (honestly, most of it is so small you could blink and miss it) but powerful in the way that only consistent, physiological nudges can be.

COVID isn’t acting like the viruses most of us grew up with, and treating it like “just a cold” is putting people at real risk. David Brasure breaks down why SARS-CoV-2 is fundamentally different, how it causes long-term damage, and what we can do to protect ourselves.
Minimalist white poster with a subtle crumpled-paper texture; small ‘whn.global’ logo centered at the top. A small intro line sits above a huge headline where ‘COVID’ is bright red and ‘is different.’ is black.

COVID is different.
SARS-CoV-2 behaves differently from the viruses most of us grew up with. And treating it like “another flu” is costing people their health.’
Footer: The World Health Network is a network devoted to global compassion—working together to inspire collective action through science for a safer, healthier world.Same white, paper-texture poster and top ‘whn.global’ logo. Large title reads ‘What makes COVID different?’ with ‘COVID’ in red, followed by a bulleted list.
Text: ‘Paraphrased from David Brasure’s WHN blog post, “COVID Is Different.” Read the full article at whn.global/covid-is-different.
What makes COVID different?
• It can breach the blood–brain barrier
• It can damage your endothelial lining and increase clot risk
• It can persist in tissues
• It can lower key immune cells
• It may increase cancer risk
• You can catch it multiple times per year
These are not “normal cold virus” behaviors.’
Footer line about the World Health Network.Same clean white poster with paper texture; ‘whn.global’ at top. Big statement line mid-page where ‘Long COVID’ appears in red and the rest in black; two short paragraphs below.
Text: ‘Paraphrased from David Brasure’s WHN blog post, “COVID Is Different.” Read the full article at whn.global/covid-is-different.
Long COVID is caused by SARS-CoV-2.
Persistent symptoms come from real, documented damage. Not anxiety, not imagination, not “just needing rest.” Hundreds of thousands of studies show SARS-CoV-2 affects the body in ways we’re still uncovering.
Just because you’ve had multiple infections and “felt fine” doesn’t mean it will stay that way.’
Footer line about the World Health Network.Same minimalist white, paper-texture layout with ‘whn.global’ at top. A large heading ‘Here’s what you can do.’ sits above a simple bullet list; the final URL slug ‘covid-is-different’ is in red.

Here’s what you can do.
• Improve air quality (filters, ventilation)
• Wear a high-filtration mask in shared indoor air
• Test when exposed or symptomatic
• Stay home when sick
• Use layered protections with friends, family, and workplaces

I am mildly obsessed with how Covid shows up in pop culture. This single panel from a larger comic by @xkcd.com is so evocative!
Five stick figures with various hats and hairstyles stand and walk around. All are wearing varieties of face mask (surgical, KN94 and N95.) Most are looking at their phone screens — one is conversing with another who is telling him something from her phone. Square “thought bubbles” above the phone users indicate what’s on their phone screens: all have variations of charts with data rising exponentially.

Top: Text reads "Trump/RFK Jr/Doge fired most of the staff, so the CDC asked Harold to update the charts."
next to this is an image of Harold and the Purple Crayon

Left Side: A line graph titled "Percentage of Emergency Department Visits with Diagnosed COVID-19 in United States, All Ages." The graph shows a wavy blue line representing the percentage over time, from November 2024 to August 2025. A red line overlays a portion of the blue line, circling it in the May 2025 data.
Bottom Left: Text reads "May 28 = .04" beneath the left graph.
Right Side: An image of the book cover "Harold and the Purple Crayon", next to a second graph.
Right Side Graph: An image of a graph displaying "% ED visits diagnosed as COVID-19". The value '1.6%' is displayed with smaller text indicating the week ending 2025-08-30 and a previous week of 1.5%.
Bottom Right: Text
, "The same May 28 is now made to look like it is zero". There is a graph next to it with a smaller percent value indicated at the matching time on the horizontal axis

these indicate that the graph is now made to appear to "bottom out" at zero, but really they have simply moved it off the graph entirely

Not to belabor the point but RFK Jr is going to implement policies that will kill thousands or even millions of people if he is not removed. Thanks to @thewarningses.bsky.social @saveamericamvmt.bsky.social for the frank discussion. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaxc...

For my covid conscious folks mutuals here, I made a thread on the fediverse talking about wastewater data being used amongst covid circles to relax precautions. I can’t do it. #covid #covidisnotover boriken.social/@Jdm2/114953...

Let’s talk about covid preparedness. I’ve seen people within covid informed spaces mention that they’ve relaxed mitigation efforts due to low levels of covid19 on wastewater around where they live. ...

I've seen a lot of posts about folks getting back from vacation exhausted – more than usual post-vacation tiredness – or having a flu or bad bug, allergies, or a 4-day sore throat "from shouting too much," or Norovirus bad. But the only virus that's rising right now is the effingvirus. 1/ 😷
OH! I should probably know this! A month of effingvirus, July 20, 2025.

Image description: In the upper left hand of the corner of the image there are a number of speech bubbles that say things like "it's just a summer flu," "stomach bug," "just allergies," "Meh, a sore throat." "Exhausted from vacation," and "Um, honey, we're out of toilet paper…"

There is a response that says NOPE. Nope. Nopeerini. No. It's probably not a "flu." The only thing rising in the United States right now is the effingvirus, new variants you aren't immune to.

there's a six panel graph put out by waste water scans weekly data for this week, July 18, 2025. It indicates that SARS-COV-2 is high. Influenza A, Influenza B, RSV, HMPV, EV-D68 are all low.
Further, it notes that these are not in seasonal onset, and that the effingvirus has medium concentrations and an upward trend in the last 21 days.
The graph is displayed inside an image of a vintage television set. The same type comment in a speech bubble response reads, "thanks for the info, but I'm just gonna turn the dial for denial."
The written response to that is "Oh, come on, don't be that guy. Be the hero who changes his destiny."

Footnotes are provided from wastewater scan weekly data repeating the above with the addition of a commentary that it's probably not Norovirus either, and a quote from wastewater scan that says "Norovirus is in the low category nationally with low concentrations, and no significant upward or downward trend over the last three weeks."
