As a reminder, VYD2321 is an intramuscular mAb designed as a vaccine alternative for the broad population, with an efficacy expectation of providing 70-90% protection against symptomatic COVID for 3 months, and 50% at the 1-year mark.

• The LIBERTY trial demonstrated safety and tolerability superior to mRNA vaccine (wow, big surprise)

• Importantly, co-administration with a COVID vaccine demonstrated no interference with vaccine-induced neutralizing titers

• Following a meeting with U.S. FDA, Invivyd will be submitting a BLA application for accelerated approval, based on safety and antiviral titers. This will be done while keeping clinical outcomes in the main DECLARATION trial blinded, so they can continue accumulating COVID events to ensure statistical power for the efficacy estimate of 70-90%

I'll take this as a good-faith question and try to show which parts are fairly solid science, and where things have gone completely off the rails.

"So what changed?"- something did. We're in a kind of "my favorite planet is Pluto" kind of situation, but this time we can't just change what words mean in order to appease people who want what they learned in grade school to stay "true".

A long-held model of how most respiratory pathogens were transmitted was upended. For over 60 years, the theory was that exhaled, coughed, and sneezed droplets took a ballistic path- like a cannonball. They arced, fell, were picked up by hands, and then faces were touched, and infection resulted. If you had a little distance and washed your hands, it was felt the risk was minimal.

The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 11 March 2020 and, on 5 May 2023, announced that the emergency phase was over. But the WHO did not declare the pandemic over - its own technical lead, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, explicitly affirmed that COVID-19 was still a pandemic, with the virus "still a global health risk" and "rampant." The United States ended its federal public health emergency six days later, on 11 May 2023. What those declarations actually ended was administrative: emergency powers, mandates, reporting requirements, and public protections. What they did not end was the virus. SARS-CoV-2 continued to circulate and mutate, and the chronic form of the disease was, in the same period, quietly emerging as a major global threat. Governments can rescind an emergency declaration; they cannot administratively rescind viral circulation or post-viral disease. Between 2021 and 2023, what changed most was not the biology - it was which COVID outcomes the government considered unacceptable enough to prevent.

🚨📢 HUGE news: U.S. CDC has finally released 2026-2027 COVID vaccine guidance.

Citing ongoing legal challenges (eg. AAP et al. v. Kennedy), they have reverted to July 2025 guidance, which is a UNIVERSAL RECOMMENDATION for a booster for all adults aged 18+, and a recommendation for immunocompromised children ages 6 months–17 years. For all other children, it remains available through shared clinical decision making.

For adults aged 18+, you no longer need to self-attest to immunocompromised status or an underlying condition that puts you at high risk of severe COVID-19 for your first seasonal dose.

Multiple doses per year (every 2 months) are still permitted through the self-attest immunocompromised rules, the same as always.

People with Long Covid have no real community.
Most of us cannot stay safe. Not because we don’t want to. Because of living situations. Because of family. That option simply does not exist for the majority of us.
We did not come to social media to preach covid consciousness. We did not come to push any political ideology.
We came to find the ones who relate. And to track variants and those who inform about vaccine updates so we know what is coming for us next.

1/ Day after total knee replacement. I’ll admit I was terrified going in — nearly everything I read and watched beforehand was grim. So far it’s not as bad as I expected. I don’t want to hex myself, I know the harder days are coming. But all I found online was negative, so here’s some positive.

4/ Also in the mix: suzetrigine, a new non-opioid painkiller. It blocks a sodium channel (NaV1.8) on peripheral pain nerves, so signals never reach the brain. First genuinely new class of analgesic in over 25 years, after decades of targeting the same pathway.

i was born 2 months premature and spent in the NICU for my first month of existence on this planet. i needed a ventilator at night for the first month after that. i am constantly background-incensed that we are doing this to the most vulnerable of us all.
