One of the most disconcerting moments of living in this timeline of the world in the U.S. is that A LOT of people in this country keep acting like there's a special line that needs to be crossed for fascism to *arrive.* The reality is that we are CURRENTLY living under Federal fascism. NOW.

It's important to remember that the AI doom scenario assumes not only that intelligence is a single well-defined thing, but also that intelligence solves literally every single problem, and that in every conflict overwhelming intelligence always wins. This is just not how anything works.

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.

This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.

Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.

Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.

Abolish ICE.

If they could have done it for law first, they would have. It's a far more immediately lucrative field than esoteric math problems. But just because they scooped up the lowest hanging fruit doesn't mean the rest of human endeavor will be as easy to replace with LLM outputs.

Andrew C 💯 @arc315.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
As you say, it's been four years since ChatGPT was first released. Lawyers are *still* getting zapped for relying on the making shit up machine to not make shit up. Making shit up is literally all an LLM does. Work that requires stuff to not be made-up garbage requires a formal check.

Andrew C 💯 @arc315.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I always say law is probably the next most formal-ish discipline after those two and even so I don't think there will be a "Lean for law" anytime soon. Maybe ever.

I think you are massively overselling the *quality* of current AI-generated code. In any case, the ability for genAI to do even passable work in coding and math is because the output can be formalized into code or math code (Lean), which will likely not be true for any other field of work.

Yes, as a one-off situation. But these will be newly elected Dems who’ll likely vote very conservatively to placate their constituents for the sake of their next election, and it can’t be a wave election every cycle.

If your anti-fascism compels you not to vote for express fascism OR fascism that's a little slower and a little more remote, well, that's anti-fascism alright. Maybe next time Dems can offer a better alternative than supporting "genocide and fascism so long as it's happening over there".
Voting isn't everything, and I did not like Kamala Harris, but if your 'antifascism' compels you to let fascim win the White House, you are not against fascism, you are a brand.

Your favorite Anthropic so-called "whistleblower" said that the rationalists have "specialized minds" that allow them to see that the end is about to be brought on to us by a magical machine god. Parroting the cult leader (of the rationalists, the R in TESCREAL) who says the same about himself.
His autobiography even opens with a parable: as a small child he threw his favorite squirtgun off a third-floor balcony rather than accept that his mother could lend out what was his, and felt complete when he heard it hit the pavement. He goes on to describes himself as a specialist in the technological transformation of the human species, one of the few people alive with the standing to steer it. He identifies with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the one person who sees the danger clearly and has to act while everyone else gets on with ordinary life.

She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

The GOP cut funding to the IRS because *audits work* and they fundamentally don't believe rich people should have to play by the rules.
Line chart titled "Revenue per audit," subtitled "In-person audits, 2010-2014." It plots average revenue and average cost per audit by taxpayer income percentile, poorer to richer, from the 0–5th percentile to the top 0.1%. Source: Boning et al. 2023, "A Welfare Analysis of Tax Audits Across the Income Distribution."

Across the bottom half of the income distribution, revenue and cost track closely, both around $3,000–$6,000 per audit. Above the median, revenue pulls ahead of cost: about $10,000 vs. $5,000 near the 90th percentile, and about $17,000 vs. $8,000 at the 95th–99th. At the top, revenue jumps to about $31,000 for the 99–99.9th percentile and about $90,000 for the top 0.1%.
