Cyclosa conica is still fairly easy to find in wooded areas . I hope plenty of them survive the winter and reach adulthood. Here are some of the ones I've found recently. @britishspiders.bsky.social

Dysdera, the woodlouse spiders. #Aractober. Also know as the Baked Bean spider 😁D.erythrina and D.crocata, the one you will most likely come across. The large chelicerae and bright orange/red colour make them very distinctive. @britishspiders.bsky.social

#Aractober Decided to feature two C's today with plenty to choose from. A cute jumping spider Calositticus inexpectus. Also a tiny 1-2mm spider that spins webs less than 8mm in size. You will only find it in a few garden centres and botanic gardens, Coleosoma floridanum.

#Arachtober 1: the lights on this pedestrian bridge create giant spider shadows! The casters are the appropriately named bridge spiders, _Larinioides sclopetarius_. #DailySpiderPic #spiders #orbweavers #Araneae #Araneidae
A pedestrian bridge by night, with downward-facing lights set underneath the wooden railings. A spider has built its web directly beneath one, creating a giant spider shadow on the walkway.A further-out view showing the bridge curving away, with dozens of similar lights. An orbweaver spider at the centre of its symmetrical, wheel-like web. It has a darker leaf-like marking (the folium) on the top side of its abdomen which looks a little like a fleur-de-lys.

Badumna longinqua for today's A-Z. New to the UK and probably spreading through plant trade. Check out your local garden centre, B+Q and especially B+M stores outdoor plant areas. You will likely find the distinctive web before any spider. Visit the BAS on YouTube for more info. #Aractober

For #Arachtober 1st, an image I have been saving for 11 months. This encounter was exciting because Pirate Spiders do not weave orb webs. They commandeer other spiders' webs. She likely ate the resident. This was the first I have seen in a web. Pirate Spider (Mimetidae) #macrophotography #spider

I don't know who lives in this house but they've made a pretty great Halloween spider. As Halloween spider decorations go, it's pretty good! It seems to be missing pedipalps, but I'll overlook that for its sheer size and the details it got right.

Finished my Cheiridium museorum drawings and have now made them into Bookmarks. 5 bookmarks per A4 page, just need to get them printed on to some nice thick paper at my local printers. Quite appropriate I think as these pseudoscorpions are commonly called Book Scorpions.
A sheet of approx A4 size paper divided into 5 equal strips by thin black horizontal lines. Each resulting rectangle contains 5 black and white line drawings of a pseudoscorpion in a different position. The pseudoscorpions appear to be wandering off across the page in different directions with their claws held out at different angles, variously facing up, down, left and right.

A grand 4 pseud day yesterday with @jeremybartlett.bsky.social on our little 24 mile cycle ride south of Norwich. Cheiridium museorum was found in the 3 churches we visited while Ephippiochthonius tetrachelatus was found at 1 church. 2 other species found at roadside locations. Details in ALT.
Cheiridum museorum: a tiny reddish-brown pseudoscorpion with a roundish, flattened body and fairly slender claws. It is on a pale piece of wood.Ephippiochthonius tetrachelatus: a brownish coloured pseudoscorpion with long slender claws that are pale reddish colour. It is sitting facing left on a piece of wood covered in bits of cobweb.Chthonius ischnocheles: a brownish pseudoscorpion with a dark head, large chelicerae and long, slender pale reddish claws. It is sitting head down on a piece of pale grey concrete. Two of these were found under bits of concrete rubble found at the edge of a roadside woodland.Chernes cimicoides: a dark, reddish-brown pseudoscorpion with large robust claws on a piece of wood. It has a matt/granular appearance. Its body and pedipalps are covered in short, blunt hairs (called setae). This one was found under the loose bark of a large bough that had fallen from a mature roadside Oak tree.

The pseudoscorpion is reddish-brown in colour with a pale line down the centre of its abdomen which is divided into segments separated by thin, pale lines.
