Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 11hCyclosa conica is still fairly easy to find in wooded areas . I hope plenty of them survive the winter and reach adulthood. Here are some of the ones I've found recently. @britishspiders.bsky.social 0153
Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 22/09/2026When I find Cyclosa conica I like to keep an eye on them, to see how they embellish their webs. These two have added lines of birch seeds. @britishspiders.bsky.social 082
Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 03/07/2026This zebra jumping spider, Salticus scenicus, kept trying to balloon from the gatepost, but didn't succeed whilst I was watching it. At least, I think that's what was happening. Iken, Suffolk, UK. @britishspiders.bsky.social 0124
Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 03/05/2026On Friday at Newbourne Springs in Suffolk, I found a young male Araniella sp. attacking a bibionid fly on a wide path. After about two minutes the spider gave up and walked off. The fly survived the attack. Araniella are orb web spinners but there was no web nearby. @britishspiders.bsky.social 173

Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 15/01/2026Well done All Saints' Church, Chevington, Suffolk. It's great that, on the display board in the churchyard, a Marbled Orb-weaver gets a special mention. Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 31/10/2025A spider for Halloween, but not a scary one. It's a rather attractive Gorse Orbweaver (Agalenatea redii) I found today near Mildenhall, Suffolk. @britishspiders.bsky.social #arachtober 1434
Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 13/06/2025I only found two Steatoda albomaculata at Lackford Lakes yesterday (12 June) and their markings and colouration were quite different. @britishspiders.bsky.social @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social 0122
Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 15/05/2025Zilla diodia is easy to find at present in the countryside of West Suffolk, or the part that I live in at least. Here is a selection of ones in the local hedgerows. @britishspiders.bsky.social 093
Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 02/05/2025I couldn't find the spider I was looking for today #lackfordlakes in Suffolk, but these were adequate compensation 0101
Alan Thornhill @alanthornhill.bsky.social · 14/12/2024As @britishspiders.bsky.social have pointed out, some spiders are still active in December. This male Alopecosa barbipes and female Drassodes (probably pubescens) were caught in pitfalls on Suffolk breckland in the past few days. (Both were released after being photographed). #winterspider 1111
