Hot take: I don't think social media made people dumber. We've been dumb this whole time. It's just that you used to have to have a job that people sent their dumb letters to, to notice. This made "Engaging with fools" an occupational hazard rather than the 24/7 experience it is presently.

It's grimly funny that only Hegseth, with the charisma of a drowned plague rat, is desperately trying to instill Third Reich iconography into this regime while everyone else remains fixated on looking like drunk golfers.

Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.

Life in an ethnostate. This is normal in India, and now it's normal in my home state, which was one of the few places in India where it wasn't normal (before the BJP captured it). Lots and lots of problems in Bengal, but weekly lynchings of Muslims and attacks on churches wasn't among them.

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

Humans have a very, very hard time understanding that the person they like might be an abhorrent piece of shit. In the age of parasocial relationships, everyone becomes the neighbor of the serial killer who is shocked at what the nice young man supposedly did.

Kant’s Categorical Imperative includes the Formula of the Universal Law and the Formula of Humanity. Act as if your choice/act will be repeated by everyone; treat other people as an end not a means. AI is the perfect tool to violate both laws.

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

Cruelty isn't efficient but there's a persistent belief it should be. The stock market routinely rewards unprofitable cruelty. Ppl believe deeply that evil and ruthlessness pays off even in the face of evidence to the contrary.

The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

1) This isn't about generating games or assets with AI, it's just about using automation tools for some processes like bug testing which isn't inherently bad 2) IGN should be embarrassed for this headline. It doesn't say "AI generation" as in generative AI, it's 世代, "generation" as in "time period"

"I never liked their stuff in the first place" when said of people outed as shitheads, is self-soothing. What the person is actually saying is "therefore the stuff I like must be made by good people" It's them, comforting themselves that their faves are not also monsters.

Striking how often pro-AI arguments always require like 10 different caveats. "What if AI was well regulated, trained on non-stolen data, not made by companies run by sociopaths, was didn't harm the environment, made discoveries that were verified beyond the statements of PR reps? What then?"

The things AI can be sort of useful for are also things that don’t require the level of scaling (and therefore environmental damage) we are seeing and don’t require theft (because they need bespoke data sets that are carefully created and curated). So their arguments don’t even support the premise.

That's not genAI, that's computer programming that's been around since the 90s. My dad is a computer scientist who developed the non-linear algorithms for it, using mammograms. GenAI bros want us to think it's all the same so we think positively of their crap, but one is actual science.

A selection of fantasy tiller guns to populate your rpg sessions ! #art #weapon
Five tiller guns; a tiller gun is an early firearm making its appearance in the Late Middle Age. It is simply a barrel fitted onto a wooden pole for handling, before shoulder stocks replaced that layout.
The first gun is the Alchemist's Delight, a long textured bronze tube coiled into a crozier shape, fitted with pipes and valves and decorative grape leaves. The muzzle of it has been tempered into a gradient of reds and purples due to heat.
The second gun is Garmr, a much shorter weapon with a driftwood one-hand grip studded with nails. The barrel is dark cold iron patterned around its length with Norse runes, with the muzzle being the head of a snarling wolf. The whole thing is covered in bright red blood splatter, with the implication that once you've fired your shat you can just as well batter people with it.
The third gun is the Skórzana, it has a very long leather and banded iron barrel fitted onto an unprocessed birch pole. The barrel has a wide axehead attached to it in a style similar to a bardiche.
The fourth gun is Piquerisme, with a wide wooden handle marked with knife marks ending in a short hooked barrel on one side and a swordstaff on the other, both made of gleaming steel. The barrel has a simple serpentine trigger holding a slow match coiled around the handle.
The fith gun is Umirtà, with a large column-shaped brass barrel fitted on a ribbed wooden handle and fitted with sky blue tassels. The barrel ends in a small axe head, and bears the inscription "ANTONIVS CRASSVS 'SALVE' DICIT" which can be translated as "Fat Tony says 'hello' ".
