I know this won’t be a popular opinion on here, but it’s time we all went back to Renner App. Yes it got bad on there after Jeremy was crushed to death by that snowplow, but now you’ll see far more celebrations of Jeremy’s life than discussions of the specific mechanics of his brutal pulverisation

language model programs have no conscious intent or ethical understanding and they never will. you can program them to say they do, but they fundamentally cannot

Fun fact: he's a direct reference to the main villain of Zeta Gundam, which fits in with FE referencing the main villain of first Gundam for the last 30 years

every time carbon removal gets posted about there's a certain "we have trees at home" genre of response. which I get, on some level, because the forces of fossil capital are indeed that comically evil and dishonest. but: 1) actual scientists also research these things 2) they thought of that

If you do play it, check out the 07th mod, it gives the option to use the original release sprites which a lot of people will vouch for as being more expressive

It's cathartic small talk if you have common experience. But every time at work someone middle-aged or older complains about how much our product costs compared to decades ago, I wanna tear my hair out

DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
My take is that it's fine to complain about prices over time to people your age or older, but you simply have to keep it to yourself for ppl younger

Craig never had a chance after the ICE killings. She's never been liked in the metro outside of her district (which she's only barely carrying) and a lot of outstate dems were really driven by anti-ICE sentiment

I made a blog! been thinking a lot about our relationship to technology and what I find unsettling about "tech detox" culture go read it: noreturn.blog/p/the-rise-o...
An article titled "The Rise of the Techno-Pastoral" by Lisa Peralta. The image that accompanies it depicts a gameboy whose screen shows a pixelated green field and trees, and its lead reads "When criticizing the present, we keep dreaming of the technology of the past. Is this logic sound?"

I like that one Misfits song about the Kennedy assassination but then Danzig starts singing about having sex with Jackie Kennedy, which to my knowledge he never actually did, and in any event it hardly seems like the time or the place.

An important post is missing though. The real question is not about how much better would 1000 times as much money would be for you, its if your own guaranteed financial security is more important than the chance to do the same for many thousands of people

I see people blaming like... dumb readings of movies on "the literacy crisis." I dunno man!! I think most people are often bad at understanding art, but historically we heard the voices of professional critics and now we hear the voices of everyone on earth at once.

every single study done on this shows that the actual best behavior is done under consistent pseudonyms and people behave worse under real names it’s counterintuitive but at this point the real names thing is willful denial of evidence

the 90s were a horrifying time, you couldn’t trust anyone. Somebody would tell you something and you’d listen to them and then the person would yell “NOT!” in your face and everyone would laugh. They would laugh!

Men are a huge obstacle to class consciousness because instead of considering how huge corporations will hire as few people as humanly possible to maximize profits, they would rather tell themselves a fairy tale about how it's the fault of individual women because they're misogynist

Of course they blame it they were part of an organized effort to oppose it, they hung up posters. It's a perfect political scapegoat for any place closing for mundane reasons like a lease being up
010
DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
They did do it in parts! And it finished months ahead of schedule!

DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
It wasn't two years, reconstruction finished months ahead of schedule for both stretchs
000
DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
This is disingenuous. People said Uptown was dead before the Henn reconstruction. They said it before 2020. The constant of living in Uptown is people telling you they think it sucks now compared to 'back then'

Your clarification makes it sound like vehicle traffic was shut down throughout. My whole point is that it was not
000
DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
I did, people said the same things 3 years ago before henn ave reconstruction. 5 years ago. 7 Years ago before 2020, 9 years ago, etc Uptown has been 'dead' for going on 20 years
090
DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
What does "literally" mean here? vehicle traffic was going through, pedestrian paths were open

DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026

000
DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
The only times it was closed to all traffic was extremely limited. For the vast, vast majority of the Henn ave reconstruction vehicle traffic was ongoing. I know because people wouldn't stop complaining about it to me. But they also complained before the redesign, and after as well

DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
Pretty much. Hennepin was very old and all the guts had to be redone and brought in line with modern standards. For an idea, when they were starting reconstruction they were ripping up brick and trolley car rails from long long ago

DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
If you want to be mad at someone blame the landlord. I've known and worked at several Uptown stores that closed because their lease was up and the landlord wanted truly absurd rents
030
DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
Most of them? Lots of places to go on Henn. I know because I frequently use the improved pedestrian pathways to walk there. One restaurant closing because it's lease was up is not an actual reflection of the neighborhood's offerings.

DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
I was literally on Henn today and it was being used a lot!
110
DeWitt @anodynebinary.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
Yes it is! Hennepin was redone in parts, partial traffic was going through a vast majority of the time!
