The hidden face of war—what you don't see on the news: Yesterday, while I was working at the school, a mother arrived with her seven-year-old son. Something was clearly wrong; the child refused to enter the classroom tent with the other children and began to cry. The mother shouted at him, trying to force him to sit with the group, but he clung to her, unwilling to let go. I stepped in and asked what was happening, and the mother explained the situation from the beginning. She said that about a year ago, the boy had been caught in a shelling incident; a wall had collapsed on him. Although he was rescued and treated, he had lost the ability to speak for nearly two months. She added that, ever since then, he refused to be apart from her for even a moment—he even slept right next to her and never left her side. When school started, a problem arose: the student had to sit in class for three hours without the comfort of a warm embrace—his mother's. Believe me, no one on the teaching staff knew how to handle the situation. In the end, we decided to let him go home (to the tent) with his mother, hoping we could find a solution to his problem. This is the kind of situation that makes a person truly hate their job.

my mother-in-law has a master’s in child psych, worked with kids with disabilities for decades. my husband got diagnosed AuDHD two years ago, age 46, and she doesn’t believe him. she’ll never believe him. his childhood was a lot. (it cost $3k out of pocket for the diagnosis btw, debt to die with)
