Any time I see someone argue that opposing intellectuals/ideas are "merely a front for power", I feel compelled to dismiss them out of hand. It's a shallow analysis which relies on the presumption that one's own beliefs are in fact the objective standard by which everything else can be judged.

I don't think that attempts by Islamists to institute Sharia in Western countries is a necessarily unfounded concern. I do think that the idea of Islam as some irreformable monolith that needs to be uprooted from Western societies is unfounded, however. Moderate Islamic voices must be championed.

Pasta al pomodoro with cherry tomatoes and fresh basil. Took a page out of Marco Pierre White's book and made the sauce with 50% fresh cherry tomatoes and 50% canned tomatoes. It captures all the intensity and freshness of the cherry tomatoes while supplying more richness.

I get the impression that people who talk politics on here will never be satisfied with any solution, no matter how broad or comprehensive or significant it may turn out to be. They will always respond with snarky comments or the same old nonchalant "lol we're fucked" attitude. It's disheartening.
