I am suing the NIH. As part of a class action with the ACLU and 16 other plaintiffs, we are challenging the thousands of unlawful grant terminations in an effort to get them all reinstated. Whatever happens, at the very least, no one can say I sat back and watched while they destroyed science.

Short thread: 18 months ago, as part of their assault on higher ed, Trump/DOGE/Vought terminated my friend Kelton Minor's NIH Director's award that would have allowed him to take a faculty position there. Without the funds, Columbia ultimately rescinded the position. Kelton moved to Denmark.

At a recent grant-writing webinar with @qedscience.bsky.social , someone asked: "What if I just get a bad reviewer?" Yes, you might. But there's never just one reviewer, and there's more worth saying 🧵

A scientist who just lost her grant cuts straight to the heart of it: “Requiring that NIH only fund work leading directly to a drug or other biomedical intervention… would rule out much basic research funded by the agency.” It’s pathetic & harmful to limit our understanding of health like this

57,455 @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social preprints in a year. The question is - 'which do I read?' Scores like @qedscience.bsky.social the 1% are one answer. That being said, when the top 1% still skews to big, well-funded teams the model never saw, are we ranking quality or resources?
Horizontal bar chart titled 'Where the top 1% clusters,' showing the ten institutions most represented among the highest-scoring 1% of 57,455 bioRxiv preprints from May 2025 to April 2026. Counts: Howard Hughes Medical Institute 82, Harvard University 72, Stanford University 56, Broad Institute 39, UC San Francisco 32, University of Cambridge 31, University of Washington 30, UC Berkeley 28, MIT 28, Heidelberg University 25. A caption notes that QED Score rates each preprint on content alone, blind to author, institution, and journal, and adds: it saw no affiliations, it landed here anyway.
