It's a fun fact that if the UK were currently a member of the Eurozone, our cost of borrowing would be significantly lower than it is now.

This is testament to No.10's frankly astonishing degree of political competence. A policy which was branded electoral suicide 48 hours ago now showing signs of robust popularity.

The Conservative Party debated for a couple of hours and decided that no, they are not a serious party. Inevitably.

Quite telling this morning that the only counter-attack from the usual voices is about the plan to amend the triple-lock because they have no solid ground to stand on. It’s more than past the hour to take them on and show them up for the shallow, cynical no-hopers that they are.

It’s easy to be cynical, but it would be false. Something extraordinary is happening here.

These anonymous MPs saying it's 'electoral suicide' to tinker with the triple lock. Exactly the type who got us into this mess: unwilling to lead, unwilling to recognise reality for fear of offending voters, unwilling to solve long-term problems if it presents the slightest short-term risk.

Burnham today v impressive. The idea itself, the scale of what is being proposed, the determination to push ahead despite how vulnerable it makes him, and the big fundamental point behind it all: that mainstream politics will only survive if it proves it can solve big problems.

Liar. Small boat crossings peaked under Johnson in 2022 reaching 46,000 in 2022. In current year they are 18,565 and falling. Also prior to Boris Johnson's Brexit there were none.
It's a disaster, and it can all be traced to
Labour ideology. Burnham has no mandate
from the people. He has no real ideas, and
no plan,

Johnson on X

England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

I mean, what's the implication here? They think we are all racists? That we fully support coked up thugs trying to sink boats at sea? That we just love to men in balaclavas on the street intimidating people? Because they have no business being in the job if that's what they think of this country.

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.

All day Piddington's womminfolk have been telling news how they will be terrified of "hundreds of young men nearby, free to come and go as they please." NOT ONE JOURNALIST has asked: "How did you cope when it was an army base? Who came and went then? Nuns?" Soon as you ask that, all becomes clear.

This story perfectly captures the innate, multi-layered stupidity of racists. I particularly like how the leader of Reform on Hampshire Council blames the government for the fact he and his mates are 18-carat, thick-as-pigshit, bigots. Hats off to the reporter too. That dumb-struck at the start 🤣

Incredible moment in the doc when Farage’s right-hand man Dan Jukes lists several foreign donors who’ve given money to the party via their kids. It’s not just one or two backers - it’s a huge conspiracy cooked up by the party to break the law. It’s bigger than we even thought

Reform appear to be going full-on anti LGBTQ+. One of their council leaders is trying to get books banned from libraries - he’ll fail - the UK isn’t the US. And now Christian Nationalist MP Danny Kruger has written an essay saying society will fail if we don’t go back to “traditional” families.

Got a news alert this morning telling me that small boat crossings had fallen to the lowest level for 6 years and I think it’s really important to note that even though this is very arguably a success in dealing with the situation, it won’t matter one iota to the people who have made it their thing.

The depressing thing about the US isn't Trump really. He's just a grotesque. It's the complete failure of all the things liberals believe in: Congress, the judiciary, the press, voters themselves, all persistently unwilling or unable to stop him. It's the failure of an entire society.
