if you want to be the party of government, you have to be the party of good government. this is another way of saying details matter. if you want to attack inequality, you need to make sure it *works.* and it turns out the design of tax systems matters quite a lot.

Hailed by lawyers and activists as the “Brown v. Board of Education of the disability rights movement,” the 1999 Olmstead ruling said that disabled people had a right to be integrated into their communities — not forced apart from society in institutions marred by a history of abuse and neglect.

The 39-page DOJ opinion took a sledgehammer to that ruling. The June memo declared that states had no federal civil rights obligation to help disabled people stay in their homes through programs that millions of Americans rely on to live independently or to care for their loved ones.

Putin apologists of the right (eg Tucker Carlson) and left (eg Noam Chomsky) got what they wanted: a U.S. government that treats the war as not Russia’s fault, cuts military support for Ukraine, and pressures Ukraine to give up land in exchange for the Kremlin’s word. It has not resulted in peace.

for sure, abortion pills are just like mail bombs or cyber attacks www.ag.state.la.us/Files/Articl...
95. That is Defendant States’ shield laws in spades.
As discussed above, the singular purpose animating
those laws is to thwart pro-life states’ prohibitions of
abortion—and the predictable and intended conse-
quence of those laws is the monthly termination of
thousands of unborn babies’ lives in Plaintiff States,
with the health and safety of women and girls as col-
lateral damage. That is the most profound interference
with the public health imaginable in Plaintiff States.
96. If Defendant States had enacted laws goading
their residents into sending anthrax, fentanyl, or mail
bombs into Plaintiff States, or launching cyber-attacks
against Plaintiff States’ infrastructure, there would be
no question that Plaintiff States could sue to abate
those public nuisances. The same is true here.
97. That is especially so because this suit impli-
cates virtually every sovereign and quasi-interest that
this Court has recognized. First, a state has a sover-
eign interest in preserving its “power to create and en-
force a legal code.” Alfred L. Snapp & Son, Inc., 45
