Some good news. London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces. The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.

RIP, Mark Norell. As somebody who was enthusiastically interested in dinosaurs, particularly in my childhood, I read his breakthrough insights with great interest in the 1990s. The emergence of the knowledge that birds were dinosaur descendants was a great lesson for me about how science advances.

In 2022 I received the wholesome DM in the image on the left on the Other Site, tonight I received the one on the right 🥹🥹🥹🥹
A Twitter DM from June 2022 reads:

Hi Mollie, I hope you're well. Just sending a message to say thanks. Early this year you tweeted a Guardian Blind Date, where the guy dragged the girl a little bit. After seeing a couple of people saying some pretty shit things about her on Twitter, I DM'd her to balance it out a bit - just say I thought she came across as really funny and fuck the haters etc (but with no other real intention other than that).
Well we hit it off, talked every day for a month (I was working out of the UK at the time) and agreed to meet as soon as I returned. I ended up coming home early and we've been dating ever since. It might sound a bit over the top but l've never felt like this about anyone else before, and I'm pretty sure she feels the same way. I've honestly had some of the best months of my life with her around, and I want to say thanks

A Twitter DM from tonight reads:

Hey Mollie, I hope you don't mind an update on the above.
I asked her if she'd marry me, she said yes!
She's my world.
I'm so incredibly thankful for you tweeting that thing that led me and meet - I'm eternally in your debt.
Thanks!

The replies to this post, even on here, even moreso on X, are so depressing to me. We live in a world where cities have never been safer and a minority of people are denying themselves a lot of delightful experiences because they’ve gone mad online.

Here's another example of a "secular relic:" a lock of Sir Isaac Newton's hair at the Royal Society of London. Interestingly, during the exhumation, a sample of hair was taken. Scientists discovered that he also had 15x the normal range of mercury in his body.
A mahogany box with the lid open. Inside are several stands of light colored hair. The box has an plaque that reads: "Lock of Sir I. Newton's Hair presented by Henry Garling Esq. Oct 26 1847."

Vast numbers of pheasants are released for shooting in Ireland too. Each one survives by constantly devouring native wildlife alive. They artificially boost fox/mink populations, impacting vanishing native ground-nesting birds. They help spread Lyme disease to people, etc. This madness MUST end.
