Don't go to the Fort Macleod, Alberta emergency room. Don't go to the Lethbridge, Alberta emergency room. Don't go to any Alberta emergency room. Don't go to Alberta. Doctor sends your kid straight to E.R. with a head and neck injury and needing an x-ray? Bottom of triage for you.

The first country to legalize same-sex marriage was the Netherlands in 2001. So 2005, definitely makes Canada an early adopter and global leader. Yet, we can’t be complacent. Especially, when the notwithstanding clause has been weaponized against the queer and trans community.

Saw a meme of GenZ baffled by how pre-internet travel worked, and realized we’ve crossed an enshittification threshold where IRL services that once seemed outdated, like travel agents, now seem luxurious: “You meet with a human expert who plans out your whole trip with you” sounds incredible now tbh

An extremely talented graphic artist (who is here on the fediverse but wishes to remain anonymous, THANK YOU FRIEND) helped me put these space-junk-for-kids pamphlets together! Here's the version that shows the page order as you would read it
Panel 1 says "Did you find SPACE JUNK?" with a photo of a black and white dog sleeping next to a piece of space junk from the 2024 Ituna SpaceX debris fall.

Panel 2 says "Today, there are thousands of satellites in space going around the Earth. Satellites help us know the weather, get internet access, drive tractors and cars, and learn more about how our planet works. When satellites are old, they get burned up in Earth’s atmosphere. Once in a while, pieces fall on the ground, and we call that space junk. Saskatchewan is a great place to look for space junk because of all the big farms we have here." There is an image of crowded dots in orbit around Earth.

Panel 3 says "Farmers found many pieces of space junk near Ituna and one piece near Hodgeville in 2024. Space junk might look like a melted piece of a car, or a
piece of melted metal with burned black cloth attached. It’s much more likely to be space junk if you find it in the middle of a field far away from a road, possibly on top of snow or growing plants." There's a picture of several large pieces from the Ituna debris fall with the text "Can you spot the kitty?" with a brown cat hiding among the debris pieces.

Panel 4 says "If you are young and think you found space junk, first tell a grown-up. If the grown-up thinks the space junk might not be safe for any reason, call the RCMP non-emergency number: 306-310-7267
If it’s safe, take a photo and send it to: spacejunk@outerspaceinstitute.ca
We are curious astronomy teachers, and we will help you learn about what you found, and get in touch with the proper authorities.
Learn more about the Outer Space Institute here: outerspaceinstitute.ca"

We thought we hired a graphic designer named Al. Turns out it's a scam? Anyways doing our art in-house now.
White serif text on a green province of Alberta shaped background. Text says "official Alberta info". Style is scribbled. Some would say childlike, others would say high art or sophisticated modern commentary. Who are we to judge. Saskatchewan is yellow, because thats the color I remember when I drove through Saskatchewan. BC is dark brown, because the trees are brown and the mountains make it dark really early. The mountains are grey. The North West Territories are purple like an aurora borealis. I have never been to N.W.T. The U.S.A. is black, both because it is Niitsitapi Blackfeer territory and because otherwise I dont want to think about U.S.A.

On this day in 1975, the Beaver became an official symbol of Canada. It was an unofficial symbol for a very long time, but once New York State decided to make the beaver an official state animal, Canadians campaigned to "Keep the Beaver Canadian!" This is the story. 🧵 1/10
A beaver sits on bare ground with its large flat tail spread out in front. Its thick brown fur appears damp and slightly matted, and its small dark eyes face forward. The beaver’s front paws are held together near its chest, as if holding or nibbling something. Its broad, paddle-shaped tail is smooth and dark, contrasting with the rough, textured fur. The background shows dirt, small wood chips, and blurred greenery.

Standard Time keeps mornings naturally sunlit, for health and safety. Permanent Daylight Saving Time would force us to wake hours before sunrise, to start work/school in cold darkness. Tell lawmakers to ditch DST with permanent Standard Time! 🔗👇
Comparison photographs of winter mornings at 8am local Standard Time (with sunlit skies) versus 8am local Daylight Saving Time (with dark skies) from six locations in three time zones across the United States. Americans currently experience only the top row of photos during winter. Proposals for permanent DST (also called “Sunshine Protection”) would force most Americans to experience the bottom row of photos instead.
