Had a big soft spot for a cracking mini-masterpiece of doowop since, and it's always a highlight of HJ when you pull out some B-side by some lads who cut like two singles then vanished. Glad so many of those records are in the right hands

We had the best music teacher in high school, who taught us the 'ice cream chords' (as C-Am-F-G iirc) and how much doowop was based on that, so we were like... does it all sound the same? And then got shown examples of how much variety could go in a track, vocal arrangements, how it was produced etc

Tonight's viewing, haven't seen it in a few years and it's definite all-time top 20 material for me. Sad and funny in perfect balance, and one of the most gorgeous soundtracks ever with a good dollop of Handel's Messiah, what's not to like

A group called the "Videos" in the 50s is warping my brain, feels like they should be some sort of mod revival band from the early 80s. "Videos" must've had some other meaning back then, my mind goes straight to VCRs

Even the Trane? Think I had just assumed Impulse were handling that. The others definitely look like cases of 'bet I could find that in 30 seconds on guitars101 losslessly rather than dropping £15 on it'

WHAT A FUCKING RECORD @whatafuckingrecord.bsky.social · 23h
Apparently the duration of the song, played three times, was long enough time for Nilsen to boil a human head and the flesh to detach. Not sure at what temperature though, I’m not Nigel Slater.

It would be funny if the tent was like a tenner off Vinted, as always we need photo evidence

The four of them should all use the one tent, fuck, and feel too awkward to ever speak to each other again (until Michael and Luis declare undying love for each other about a decade later), this could all be neatly resolved by the application of this 'Luca Guadagnino movie' intervention

You be the judge: my friend and I bought a tent but she’s moved away. Who owns it now?
Ava shared the initial cost but Ruth has forked out for repairs. You decide who’s on the wrong side of this in-tents debate?

I absolutely loved Radiohead from about 1994-2001, after which I was really just left with two questions: 1) nice turn to experimentation lads, but do you fancy making a coherent album with it 2) do you really think the world is this miserable and irredeemable, at least the Manics left room for hope

That was the first version of that song that I heard (got into him off the back of the Unplugged BBC broadcast) and the acoustic arrangement does work beautifully; hearing the original years later was quite something
