For National Poetry Day, another favourite of mine and brother, Ginsberg knew what he was talking about.
Howl By Allan Ginsberg
Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine
Gotta, gotta be down, because I want it all
It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this?
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep and she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke and she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed and my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head, but she's touching his
Chest now, he takes off her
Dress now, let me go
And I just can't look, it's killing me
They're taking control

Erasures from Institutionalism and Schizophrenia: A Comparative Study of Three Mental Hospitals 1960-1968, G. W. Brown & J. K Wing
A book page with most text erased by Tippex, remaining text reads
omitted remaining
the effect of age, surprising
the keenest and most sensitive
have a higher claim
some
hear began to feel
they had done as much as they could;
or simply that enough was enough

1) seen Ambarchi namechecked on here for ages and seriously tempted to make this the point I dive in from the description 2) record label promo images like this grind my gears, it's a pet nitpick - this is an album of "two side-long tracks", THERE ARE SIX CLEARLY VISIBLE TRACKS ON THAT VINYL SIDE

For National Poetry Day, Frank O'Hara
Poem [“Lana Turner has collapsed!”]

By Frank O’Hara
Lana Turner has collapsed!
I was trotting along and suddenly
it started raining and snowing
and you said it was hailing
but hailing hits you on the head
hard so it was really snowing and
raining and I was in such a hurry
to meet you but the traffic
was acting exactly like the sky
and suddenly I see a headline
lana turner has collapsed!
there is no snow in Hollywood
there is no rain in California
I have been to lots of parties
and acted perfectly disgraceful
but I never actually collapsed
oh Lana Turner we love you get up

Spent so many brooding dark evenings in uni libraries letting this wash over me. One of the "wow I'm getting to hear a new album from a vintage artist so late in his career" moments in the 90s that now look preposterous as Dylan then only had about a decade in age over me now - and he's still going!

Rather than pop songs, what the supermarkets should really be playing over the PA is longform, slowly developing drone and sound collage kind of stuff because shoppers would stay in the supermarket to find out what the sound does next, and during that time they’d buy additional stuff.

I've not listened to all of it yet - most of it, even, it's a double album! - but I'm side-eyeing everyone saying the new Carly Rae Jepsen doesn't have the juice. I'm hearing Minnie Riperton, Kylie, Dolly, Mark Ronson, even some Idler Wheel era Fiona Apple. It's good! It's pop! CRJ's flexing on us!

Loving how this thread of how people's Metal Boxes have fared over the years is still going. My history with the album is quintessentially me: 1. buy the CD with CD-sized metal box circa 1996 2. put the disc into a CD-single jewel case for safekeeping of the metal box 3. lose the box 4. lose the CD

Have I imagined it (can't find the receipts) or didn't something emerge about Chan Marshall in recent months that... wasn't a good look, at minimum? I distinctly remember thinking 'aw, now Cross Bones Style is no longer the hottest music video in history' but it's completely slipped my memory why

I realise you guys all lapped it up, and it was good to see a statesperson show true emotional engagement, but, honestly, ”My dad, who lived in Liverpool, was a good man who believed in opportunity for all and voted Labour so England has to own Scotland” is a fucking dreadful argument.
