Is there a ‘right’ age to start a PhD? Our PhD fellow Anna Foix doesn't think so. Anna pivoted from software to academia. Once worried that her computer science background wouldn’t fit a life in research, she has since realised it’s a huge asset, as AI becomes more central to biology.

My take: Engineering *is* important. Ideas are cheap. Novelty is overrated. "Hyperparameter tuning" is a cynically dismissive term for something that is in fact the real, difficult problem.
