This was such a fun conversation! Wickhills is such a cool book to get to ask a million world build questions about and listening to Premee talk about writing is one of my favorite things.

Did NOT like it when they opened the closet at the beginning of Labyrinth and it was full of little guys. I was like oh I’m not watching this. Also some movie where there was a mermaid in a tank & for years I was scared that a mermaid would come up the shower drain (could not tell you why)

Top tv shows but make it about birds: #9 Birbs With Enthusiasm (Great Egret chicks excited about something) #birds 🌿
Three large white egret chicks stand in a big nest. Two face the camera with their beaks open, looking like they’re exclaiming loudly over something.

Currently rereading Romantic Outlaws, the joint bio of Mary Wollestonecraft and Mary Shelley but the problem is I’ve entered the point in their lives where it’s just, like, straight bummers and it’s not great for morale.

Literary fiction is coming. It is going to revolutionize the economy. We know that China has already got a start on literary fiction. We can’t afford to be left out of the literary fiction economy. Think of your kids. They might already be engaging with literary fiction.

Thrilled to discover, via an AI spam email, that I am apparently the author of M. A. Carrick’s Eye of Leviathan. How cool that I wrote such a great book. Pity that I’m apparently not marketing it correctly.

Sharing a bathroom with Penny is challenging because her favorite hobby is staring at herself in the mirror with the lights off. She’ll do it for ages and if you turn the light on she gets SO SAD.

I read the Goblin Emperor right at the beginning of grad school, as I was starting student teaching, and I could feel myself imprinting on it in real time. It was a book about being overwhelmed and trying your best at a new job and it was so exactly the thing I needed in the moment.

Often when I hear other teachers talk about using AI, they aren’t talking about outsourcing grunt work so much as outsourcing student work. Formatting, drawing, cutting etc. that I would usually have my kids do. Fine motor practice, processing time, etc. that is good for kids IMO.

Binge reading MG fantasy bc I realized I wanted to tweak my comps before querying & I’ve read too many heartbreaking depictions of old women adopting orphans in a row. Like good sign that I’ve found reasonable comps but also ow. No more exhausted old women reluctantly feeding small children please.

It’s been over a month but I still think about how Disclosure Day opens w/ Emily Blunt’s character doing a public, celebratory dance about hail. Like she’s telling pple “dangerous, stressful weather coming” & her framing is “what a fun time for me” & tbh that kinda set the tone of the film for me.

dubiousculturalartifact on Tumblr: "The new Odyssey adaptation has inevitably gotten people talking about a Muppet version of it, and they're frequently suggesting Kermit as Odysseus, Miss Piggy as Penelope.

I'm sorry but that's thinking way too small, hear me out:

We need to have Miss Piggy as Odysseus, and Kermit as Penelope.

Think about it... who's the more fickle, prideful, warlike one in that relationship? Who is absolutely ready to go ham, at a moment's notice?

 It ain't Kermit"

anyroads replies: "Miss Piggy tied to the mast while Statler and Waldorf heckle her from the sea"

The millennial housing experience is looking at a property and being like idk that’s a lot but maybe we could swing it. Would be nice to not have so many roommates. And then the copy on the listing is like “great opportunity to downsize.”

Those photos are from dawn, as my mom woke me up early to make sure I could see the turkey family. But no need to wake up early-- they are back this afternoon. My mom teared up both times, she was that excited to see them (even though they live here and she gets to see them all the time).
Two photos of the same Wild Turkey family, a large dinosaur-like hen and her five babies, all barely ankle-high to her. In this photo she is leading them through a mowed part of the lawn, past taller gardens. It looks like there is a wire in front of them, but that's actually my mom's dog runner, it's above the turkeys but because I'm taking a photo from above it's in the way.Same family of six Wild Turkeys, now under the porch picking at the bird seed dropped from the feeders above. Mom is taking a protective stance over the babies, who are now much closer to her as they peck at seeds on the pavement.

i keep coming back to this. it's not about hating us. it's about degrading femininity as such, and reducing the definition of women to baby makers and ornaments. trans folk get in the way of that. so does women's sports. so does the fucking vote.

After two years in one of the few parts of the US w/ actual public transit, I have descended back into car dependency and it is hell. I spend at least two hours a day on car related chores. Some of that is switching states but not all of it. Insane amount of overhead to offload to individuals.
