The OpenAI "breaking containment" story stems from the company's own failure to build a secure sandbox. They relied on a single local proxy to "contain" the program. They could have air-gapped the thing. It's not like they lack resources. It was advantageous to them for the agent to "get loose."

Based on this information, if you see someone with an Apple Watch after September 18, my advice is - Ask if it's a Watch Series 12. - If it's a Watch Series 12, ask if they have "Recap" enabled. - "I don't consent to being recorded. Could you disable your watch or Recap before we speak further?"

Observe the rank anthropomorphization here. Models don't "conclude" anything, nor do they "hack", "wriggle", or "cheat". You simply can't write clear informative articles about this stuff if you displace agency away from the people (organized into corporations) responsible. /fin for now.
Screencap:
Rogue AIs going unsupervised for days, hacking at least one company, represent one of the first real-world examples of a threat long feared by AI safety researchers: loss of control. It comes as the cybersecurity capacities of top models, including Anthropic’s Mythos, have helped fuel debate in Washington about how to regulate artificial intelligence.

Any news report that starts “OpenAI says…” or claims “an AI” (sic) has “broken containment” or “gone rogue” is no longer doing journalism, but PR for the #AI industry. #OpenAI used their product to hack a third-party and failed to implement adequate safeguards. That’s it. That’s the story. #AIHype

It brings me great pleasure to inform you the word "blurb" is named after a made-up woman named Belinda Blurb whose job is to tell everyone how great a book is
The word blurb was coined in 1906 by American humorist Gelett Burgess (1866–1951).[2] The October 1906 first edition of his short book Are You a Bromide? was presented in a limited edition to an annual trade association dinner. The custom at such events was to have a dust jacket promoting the work and with, as Burgess' publisher B. W. Huebsch described it, "the picture of a damsel—languishing, heroic, or coquettish—anyhow, a damsel on the jacket of every novel".

In this case, the jacket proclaimed "YES, this is a 'BLURB'!" and the picture was of a (fictitious) young woman "Miss Belinda Blurb" shown calling out, described as "in the act of blurbing." The name and term stuck for any publisher's contents on a book's back cover, even after the picture was dropped and only the text remained. The original Belinda Blurb

a reddit post is claiming Lennart Poettering allowed Dylan Taylor’s surveillance PR through into the systemd repo because it commercially benefits Poettering’s new startup Amutable. Amutable sells "cryptographically verifiable integrity”, OS attestation, & deterministic state compliance for Linux.
r/privacy u/all_name_taken • 7h
The Systemd Age Verification isn't about
"compliance". It's a Trojan Horse for Lennart Pottering's new startup.

Label: age verification

Context: Systemd just merged PR #40954, hardcoding a birthDate field into PID 1 for state age-verification laws.

But if you look at the creator's recent moves, the real agenda is terrifyingly clear.

Lennart Poettering just spent the last few years at Microsoft and recently left to launch a new startup called Amutable. Their entire buisness model?

Selling
"cryptographically verifiable integrity",
", OS attestation, and deterministic state compliance for Linux.

He isn't adding this birthdate field to protect kids or help distros dodge a lawsuit. He is literaly building the exact identity and compliance infastructure his new company needs to sell attestation services, right into the Linux core.

It's an open-source trojan horse for his own commercial pipeline. You don't build the plumbing for a digital cage unless you plan on selling the locks.

We are not suicidal. Our vehicles have been inspected and are in good working order. We plan our routes and check conditions before heading out. Our gear is in good shape.

We pack food and water and tell people where we’re going. We stay on marked trails and respect public lands. There are no dangerous crossings or cliffs on our hikes and we know our limits. We’re pretty solid outdoorspeople and we plan to keep enjoying our parks for a long time.

palestinian journalist posting on twitter that his bluesky account was immediately taken down purely because he was in gaza. all palestinian accounts are assumed to be spam.
Tamer Nahed 𓂆🇵🇸
@Tamer_Alnoaizy

BlueSky is one of the worst platforms I have ever dealt with. Within seconds of creating a second account, after my first one was shut down just two days after it was created, my account was closed again. This happened despite the fact that I hadn’t posted anything or followed anyone. I was only in the process of adding a profile photo, yet I received an email claiming that my account was “spam” and that it was “causing harm.” What kind of logic is this?

The painful truth is that the account was shut down the moment it became clear it was created from inside Gaza. It seems we are no longer allowed to write or speak about what is happening to us here. They are not afraid of content itself, but of our voices and the reality we carry with us.

Millions are spent to silence these voices and to erase the truth. I am exhausted by this platform and by how our photos and videos, which document real suffering, are treated as “violations of community standards,” as if pain itself has become a crime.

What is happening is not simple moderation or policy enforcement. It is an attempt to erase our existence and bury the truth. And honestly, this is shameful and unbearably painful.

[the original poster has included two screenshots showing the email from bluesky admin informing him that his account has been taken down for being 'spammy, inauthentic or disruptive to users'. it's the standard boilerplate you get when they take moderation action.]
