For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.

France is now in a debt crisis. What matters is the level of yields and the rate at which they're rising. The ECB is to blame. It intervened aggressively to cap Italian and Spanish yields in 2022, so the warning signals that should have come never did... robinjbrooks.substack.com/p/how-a-glob...

1/ What does it take to become 'meat' in the Russian army? The bottom line, observes one Russian warblogger, is that anyone can become a disposable assault trooper for use in a suicidal attack – it just depends on your commander's attitude and who you might have annoyed. ⬇️

Fascinating case study of how misinformation and just-so stories get spread. A Wikipedia editor used bogus citations to mis-credit many small inventions to classic-era Islamic scholars, attributions which then ended up in numerous popular books, articles, etc.

EV charging in China was 17.2 TWh in August, up 51.2% year-on-year. That's equivalent to ~1.3 million barrels of oil a day, in a global oil market that shifts about 100m bpd. Just the change from last year cuts global oil demand by 0.5m bpd. english.cec.org.cn#/newsdetails...
