Pittsburgh residents lament closure of North Side homeless resource center
The center was one of the last of its kind, after the shuttering of facilities that had been operating in Downtown and East Liberty over the last couple years.

I’m guest editing the next issue of Agita; send me your weirdest <1000 word stories about weird art. Authors from marginalized backgrounds encouraged and prioritized. No AI bullshit. The weirder the better. agitamag.com/submissions/
Issue 3: Ekphrasis
Between October 17 and November 17, guest editor Zachary Gillan will accept submissions of weird flash fiction that features ekphrasis.
Ekphrasis is the verbal representation of a work of visual art.
Weird fiction is a verbal representation of the world, in order to unsettle it.
We want stories that live at the intersection of the two. Pieces that emphasize the eerie power of weird art, whether fully ekphrastic or embedded within a traditional narrative. How does the weird seep in as reality is doubly estranged from these two layers of representation? Cursed paintings, uncanny statues, haunted mezzotints-send us your stories of weird art.

Every single newspaper that reported that Jane Doe “changed her story” should be rushing to publish retractions right now. This case should be a lesson in taking a DA’s victim-blaming statements at face value. Victims do not report to the police because they thought nothing happened to them.

Very excited to see this in Providence. And to be able to see a few of the ripples of our work in Pittsburgh is a gift. They wanted it to be billed a failure and wish it were that simple. And yet, we keep moving toward justice.

I read a couple hundred death penalty cases for a case once and I think you’d all be shocked at how often this happens. The death penalty is one of the cruelest things in our system, an obvious violation of the 8th amendment cruel and unusual punishment clause, but we just love to kill.

This is an incredible thread for instructors. I talked with two of my classes about Cornell today, and also showed them “Carry that Weight”, Emma Sulkowicz’s protest art at Columbia a decade ago. We talked about resources & advocacy, but I hadn’t thought about what *I* would do as a teacher.

The co-optation of the history of lynchings of Black men to protect the privileges of wealthy white male college students was racist. It’s one of many scenarios in which Trump (falsely) argued that a marginalized group had to lose their rights to protect another marginalized group.

So somehow a possum just ended up in my house and I still don’t know how. Cute though!
Juvenile possum in a handled teal bin. Moments before when I spotted him and yelped, he displayed his ferocious sharp teeth at me to show how dangerous he was. Here, though, his head is looking over his left shoulder, we see him from the top with his beady eyes and wispy hair on his back
