Long advocated for assessing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) beyond the family level, incorporating community-level adversities like discrimination, violence, and poverty, because these stressors disproportionately impact racial/ethnic minoritized communities and impact health outcomes.

Again, this is not about the literal taxes. This is about power. They have no problem paying the tax. They wouldn't feel it. What they are worried about is a well-funded government, and a well-to-do middle class. They can't have that.

This will be one of the most important immigration cases in a generation. The Trump admin claims that a 1996 law mandates the detention of millions of people without any right to a bond hearing; every person who entered illegally, no matter how long in the past. If they win, it's a nightmare.

The mortality reviews that ICE published late last week show that medical neglect is widespread in Trump's concentration camps — something immigrants, advocates and attorneys have said for years, and which ICE routinely denies. New from me in @prospect.org.

ICE says only RADeCO could supply its robot dogs. But the arm, camera and radios on ICE's list match what Boston Dynamics sells in its own public safety kit. RADeCO's one unique product, its detection software, is listed as optional.

As contract nerds, this is wild. ICE posted a market research notice on Aug. 28, and two companies responded. ICE ruled out one offering a standard Boston Dynamics Spot, never opened the order to bidding, and gave RADeCO a sole-source award on Sept. 25.
Screenshot of section 4 of an ICE document justifying a purchase without full and open competition. The section cites 41 U.S.C. 3304 as the legal authority and lists seven possible reasons for limiting competition, each with a checkbox. Only the first box is checked: "RFO 6.103-1: Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements." The unchecked options are unusual and compelling urgency; industrial mobilization, engineering, development or research capability, or expert services; international agreement; authorized or required by statute; national security; and public interest.Screenshot of section 9 of the same ICE document, titled "Description of Market Research." The text reads: "Market research was conducted to identify contractors capable of providing a custom Quadruped Unmanned Ground Vehicle able to fulfil the tactical needs of the agency. The research included internet searches and a review of available vendor information, pricing data, and quotes. The market research SSN identified one vendor (RADeCO) capable of providing the customized CERBERUS SPOT-AV. GovTRobotics submission of the Boston Dynamics Spot Enterprise with Spot Arm was evaluated against the required Description of Specifications for the Quadruped Unmanned Ground Vehicle and deemed not technically acceptable. Furthermore, GovTRobotics is not an authorized reseller of Boston Dynamics supplies. Following a thorough review, it was determined that only RADeCO customized CERBERUS SPOT-AV solution could meet all the essential requirements outlined in the SSN."

I Can Protect His Future, but She Can’t Be Helped: Himpathy
and Hysteria in Administrator Rationalizations of
Institutional Betrayal
Nicole Bedera
Department of Sociology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
ABSTRACT
It is well-established fact that sexual assault survivors who
report the violence they endured are retraumatized by the
reporting process, but there is limited research on how these
institutional betrayals are enacted. The current study draws on
ethnographic observation and interview data to explore how 24
administrators use gendered rationalization frames to justify
betrayal in Title IX cases. Specifically, administrators invoke
himpathy to define their primary role as protecting the futures
of young men. To defend this view from critique, they condemn
how survivors use Title IX by casting them as hysterical women
who are either mistaken in labeling an experience as sexual
assault or suffering from trauma too severe for a Title IX process
to repair. Taken together, these frames portray institutional
betrayal as moral, even as these ideologies reinforce gender
inequality.

Inside the White House, some of Mr. Trump’s top lieutenants have expressed frustration about a perceive slowdown in the adminstration’s attempts to force conservative cultural changes on academia.

This is APPALLING. The Trump administration is detaining multiple random Somali immigrants with no criminal record at Guantanamo Bay, seemingly because the White House ordered ICE specifically to detain Somalis at Gitmo as part of its effort to punish an ethnic group Trump has attacked.
According to Mohamed, guards at Guantanamo have said they are being held there because that's what officials in Washington, DC, want. "There's no other nation, only Somali people in Guantanamo Bay, in the prison," he told me. "And when we ask them why we are here, they tell us... Washington...ordered to keep Somali people in the Guantanamo Bay."

Almost all the antiabortion states that changed their abortion definition (14/16) added what we coined 'definitional exclusions.' Instead of broadening health exceptions in bans (more on that later) they are trying to define out care that intersects w abortion (eg, ectopic pregnancy & miscarriage).
