Same goes for “civility.” It’s not simply an uncomplicated, obvious good. Who’s deploying the concept, how is it being defined, to what ends? I’m not saying that “civility” efforts may not be well-intentioned or have good outcomes, just that, like “interfaith,” it doesn’t get an automatic pass.

Much of the current rush of “civility” trainings and workshops boils down to “you must be civil to (translation: accommodate and not point out the devastating flaws and evils of) our position and agenda”

Guess what, all of Joe’s hand-wringing fury at Bibi, tactically leaked to the press, didn’t amount to a hill of beans. As with every other recent potus who’s spun the same tired narrative. Now, what have we here? A Biden official on a self-justifying, history re-writing book tour? How right on cue.

It’s apparently gonna now really suck to be working in any area where there are orders, reservations, bookings, etc. If the muse/dots/little red crab commercials have their way, these idiotic “agents” are going to be, apparently calling, ordering, booking, and probably making a muddle of things

Good 🧵 FWIW, interest in pseudo-scientific “proofs” of scriptural things is an area of overlap among some Christians & Muslims. Among such Muslims - who also have the Noah story in the Quran & in the qassas al-anbiya (tales of the prophets) genre - such “finds” are also tantalizing. Compare…

Just read this. So many stunning details, assumptions, leaps of logic reported here it boggles the mind. To the extent the reporting is accurate, there’s a tremendously muddled naïveté among those in charge of making claude, the mechanistic product of a profit seeking company, “good” or “moral.”

Worth emphasizing that there are several layers of nuts here. If Smith had gone to an NBA game in Atlanta, that wouldn’t indicate he’d met with Willis. (Why would anyone go to the trouble, rather than just having a phone call?) And if he had met with Willis… that wouldn’t be any sort of scandal.

Striking how often pro-AI arguments always require like 10 different caveats. "What if AI was well regulated, trained on non-stolen data, not made by companies run by sociopaths, was didn't harm the environment, made discoveries that were verified beyond the statements of PR reps? What then?"

It’s tempting to say that all these AI pushers and boosters should’ve taken more humanities classes. But the fact is, we are indeed talking “basic” or lowest common denominator morality (and logic) here. They do know better, but they’re in too deep to care.

What's weird is the apparent assumption that task lists can be turned over to bots. (1) tacit knowledge (2) if work requires coordination with others, you need to be in the loop to be considerate of them, and draw on what they know.

Matthew J Kuiper @matthewjkuiper.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Not sure where the discourse started, but I agree that reducing our messy, flesh & blood, complex, glorious human lives to a series of “tasks” to get done (which an AI agent can supposedly do for you to give you more time for… what exactly?) is just one more example of big tech’s dehumanizing trend.

Americans: the price of gas! Also Americans: if you don’t floor it from every stop sign and stoplight, I will tailgate you and lose my temper. (it wastes gas to floor it from a stopped position, so to save some money, you better believe I’m going to start out slowly)
