Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

The US might've fired more Patriot missiles in one week of the Iran war than Ukraine has in over 4.5 years of this whole war. The US fires 3 interceptors at once per missile, just to be safe. Ukraine used to do that too but now they're down to firing just one, if that.

Recklessly ridden bikes whether illegal motor bikes or dockless hire bikes can cause terrible injuries and this needs to be addressed alongside the far greater toll of death and injury caused by recklessly driven vehicles smashing into people at bus stops, on footways and on the road.

In Australia, too, the (close to) cheapest new car you can buy in terms of purchase price is an electric one. When running costs are factored in, electric cars are the clear winner in even more cases.

European gas is above €82/MWh - the highest since late 2022. Hormuz remains largely shut and gas storage is at 68% going into winter. None of this started in Europe but we pay for it. The only exit is using less gas. Heat pumps, electrified industry, insulation.

When people ask 'how are homeowners supposed to pay for insulation, heat pump and solar panels' sometimes the answer is 'bike lanes'. Average annual car ownership in Belgium is €6k-€8k or €12k-€16k in gross salary. Average monthly gross salary in Belgium is €4k.
