Seems wide of the mark given he, you know, signaled the end of the triple lock and wants to undo the Brexit settlement. Those aren’t things many people will like.

Most striking of all is that this is explicitly a very *pro-politics* speech, a direct rebuttal to the anti-politics that is so widespread. And rightly so: politics can change things, it is an admirable thing to choose to engage in and a duty for us all to step forward and pursue.

I saw a headline today about OpenAI deciding not to release its latest model because of “safety concerns”. And I thought, what an absolute genius piece of marketing to cheat your investors.

I saw Michael Palin at an event several months ago and he made a pleasantly vicious joke about how “some of us had wives to pay”, which was why Monty Python did their reunion show

I think all the time about how on Twitter Eric Idle said he doesn't talk to Cleese, and some stupid little parasocially warped shit said 'That makes me sad' and Idle said 'Why? It makes me happy.'

The entire article is fantastic, but the writer's definition of a trad wife is *chef's kiss* perfection. "Those are conservative women who dress like the women in The Sound of Music, but without the opposition to the Anschluss."

Why? because she's brought a ludicrously capacious bag.
What's even in there?
Flat shoes for the subway?
Her lunch pail?
Greg, it's monstrous.
Itis gargantuan.
You could take it camping.
You could slide it

I’ve always thought the idea that Burnham was “neutralizing” Miliband by putting him in the Foreign Office was wide of the mark. Whichever Cabinet job he was given, he’d make moves.

Re Bayeux Tapestry discourse: I knew Oliver Dowden was a dense ball of mass when, amid the BLM protests and the removal of statues, he complained that the “woke” Left would probably want us to return the Tapestry to France next…

I’m reading a biography of the great food writer Elizabeth David - and this reply from an ex-lover about the news of her marriage is absolutely ruthless:
Elizabeth was too perceptive not to be aware that many of the people she most respected were not impressed by Tony. Perhaps this was why she always seemed rather reluctant to talk about him, and certainly her letter to Peter Laing announcing her marriage was reticent in the extreme. Many thanks for your letter telling me of your marriage,' wrote Peter from Montreal on 10 December. T hasten to wish you every happiness and I am sure you will be happy too. Your brief note, however, does not disclose in any manner the identity of the fortunate man. In fact, it is written in such a way that all that appears to have occurred is that you have changed your name'
