Seems wide of the mark given he, you know, signaled the end of the triple lock and wants to undo the Brexit settlement. Those aren’t things many people will like.

Most striking of all is that this is explicitly a very *pro-politics* speech, a direct rebuttal to the anti-politics that is so widespread. And rightly so: politics can change things, it is an admirable thing to choose to engage in and a duty for us all to step forward and pursue.

I think all the time about how on Twitter Eric Idle said he doesn't talk to Cleese, and some stupid little parasocially warped shit said 'That makes me sad' and Idle said 'Why? It makes me happy.'

The entire article is fantastic, but the writer's definition of a trad wife is *chef's kiss* perfection. "Those are conservative women who dress like the women in The Sound of Music, but without the opposition to the Anschluss."

I’ve always thought the idea that Burnham was “neutralizing” Miliband by putting him in the Foreign Office was wide of the mark. Whichever Cabinet job he was given, he’d make moves.

In so far as I “give it” to Tim Montgomerie, I think the Right missed a trick in not embracing his approach to gay marriage - reimagining something progressive as actually conservative, and using that to gain new support for a traditionalist view of society.

I’m reading a biography of the great food writer Elizabeth David - and this reply from an ex-lover about the news of her marriage is absolutely ruthless:
Elizabeth was too perceptive not to be aware that many of the people she most respected were not impressed by Tony. Perhaps this was why she always seemed rather reluctant to talk about him, and certainly her letter to Peter Laing announcing her marriage was reticent in the extreme. Many thanks for your letter telling me of your marriage,' wrote Peter from Montreal on 10 December. T hasten to wish you every happiness and I am sure you will be happy too. Your brief note, however, does not disclose in any manner the identity of the fortunate man. In fact, it is written in such a way that all that appears to have occurred is that you have changed your name'
