Unbelievable. @rnzrss.bsky.social article re: Hipkins' campaign speech has Luxon's campaign speech embedded in it, not Hipkins'. Hanlon's Razor requires me to be charitable, and one could be forgiven for taking it as yet another example of Hager's observations.

It's worth the left remembering that the changes to enrolment laws could significantly alter the vote this year (regardless of what polls say) - and I doubt it will be in favour of the left.

$1500 for babies? Remember when we all used to get $1000 and another $1000+ a year? I remember. This govt kills our cows and says here’s some free shoes from the leather. I fucking hate them. I don’t care how much money I make I’ll never vote for these economic vandals.

The maximum housing allowance is $305pw for a sole parent with 2 or more dependant children. That's $15 860 a year. A backbench MP gets $19 300 a year for basic expenses on top of salary, accommodation allowance etc.

Awful truth, unknown to 99% of the population... NZ Govt adopted an economic management model in the 1980s that MAKES SURE: 1. We always have tens of thousands of kiwis on the dole. 2. People with work / little work live in abject poverty that keeps them desperate for crap jobs. Why? [🧵 1/n]

A decade after a single Waitangi banner, Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga has become a national movement – and a challenge to how te Tiriti is framed in Aotearoa.

Good on Penn Jillette. Having to come to terms with your entire political identity and philosophy being wrong is not easy and most people could never do it.

Minister Shame Jones issued a statement: "The Matua wasn't sure how to respond to this fact but when he got a phonecall from his mate who manufactures tyres, and has cash in a brown paper bag, he realised that the solution is to defund the research." www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Look, I'm a sucker for the occasional moment when Hooton lands a well-crafted blow on a National govt, but his latest paywalled Herald column (and Prebble's which he cites) lean on Argentina's juked poverty stats to argue that the problem with our current govt is that it's not right wing enough.

Argentina reports a drop in poverty under President Milei, but many say life is harder
Argentina says that its poverty rate has dropped to 38.1% in libertarian President Javier Milei’s first year in office.

Someone should be taking a good hard look at every cop who has ever worked closely with McSkimming, just to see how far the rot goes. And every case he's ever worked involving sexual predators.

What I also want to know is why proper reporting like this is behind a paywall while the lies these harmful arseholes spread get splashed everywhere. Well, we know why. It’s horrific that the media companies are so complicit in this.

A disappointing (but not surprising) amount of men are inserting themselves into my Gisele Pelicot content to tell me it’s “not all men.” Almost every one has called me some variation of sweetie or babe - and demanded I acknowledge how much “men like women.” Guys - you’re proving my point 🧵
Screenshot of a disabled Ginger article which reads Newsflash: "Good men" would have sounded the alarm. They wouldn't have expected a gold star for simply NOT raping an unconscious woman. I'm horrified whenever I read about it - but I keep talking about it so men realize WHY we're angry. WHY we're demanding they speak out.
Now is not the time to shout "not all men" and demand we give you props for not being abusive. Now's the time to say LOUDLY that you condemn this behaviour and that you will hold the men in your lives to a higher standard.
Whenever I talk about this case - women share horrifying stories of their own rapes and abuse. Some share things they've never shared before. Gisele's courage is helping other women speak out and find their voice.

"oh noez," sez the government insincerely. "now we have to privatise in ways that directly benefit one of the private medical companies owned by our MPs. It really is tragic that our hand was forced in this way." "People died? Yeah sure, tragic, like we said." #nzpol

That time when someone who actually enforces perjury laws called you a liar. Who to believe, Winston Raymond Peters, who has made an entire career out of racism & lies, or a judge? Geez, I don't know, that's a toughie. I know, let's ask Judith 'Dirty Politics' Collins. 🤔
