Mar Hicks @histoftech.bsky.social · 19/07/2026I firmly believe that if people all across the political spectrum had not leaned into ableism to make wearing masks so unpopular we would have seen many more people using this vital tool during the recent wildfire smoke emergencies 321055176 1.1K
#1 Lamar Jackson Stan @lunchbox17.bsky.social · 20/07/2026It was wild being blanketed with smoke (especially Thursday) & seeing so many people just brazenly walking around outside unmasked! This is what two days did to my filter: 050 5

Mar Hicks @histoftech.bsky.social · 19/07/2026my patterned masks come from wellbefore.com fyi. They have a similar fit to a 3m aura but slightly less breathable and long lasting IMO. But bc I am not immune to social pressure I often wear them at work or out in crowds—since they look less clinical they seem to provoke fewer problematic reactionswellbefore.comWellBefore | N95 Masks, PPE & Medical SuppliesTrusted by 1,000,000+ customers. SimKat Studios, MakerSpace, Lab, Coop, and Research (Interface) @simkatstudios.com · 19/07/2026I wore masks I saw plenty of people do it before they even said. They dont work so long as well as a proper respirator. 010 1
Ridley LeDoux @ridleyal.bsky.social · 19/07/2026It still amazes me that people get mad at OTHER people wearing masks. Like, whatever happened to individual liberty, free expression, live and let live? It has as much impact as someone else wearing something you wouldn't wear. Or someone wiping down their airplane seat w/a wipe when you wouldn't. 040 4
Isocomet @isocomet.bsky.social · 19/07/2026For anyone who has trouble breathing with a mask for whatever reason, Breatheteq, while not as cool as Mar's mask, are the most breathable ones I've found, plus they have kid sizes. 161 6
jlev451.bsky.social @jlev451.bsky.social · 19/07/2026My trusty Flomask and 3Ms were pressed into service. Still mask when indoors. Flomask for the “higher risk” situation. Never less than N95. 050 5
DistrictofAlex @districtofalex.bsky.social · 19/07/2026A friend of mine works at a country club. Wore her mask outside, where she was stationed. She was asked to take it off because apparently staff wearing masks makes members “uncomfortable”. She didn’t want to lose her job so she honored the request. Spent the rest of the day coughing with a migraine. 1434 43
Mark Ungrin @mark-ungrin.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Catastrophic systems failure from the top down. Medical leadership looked at COVID, and first and foremost saw an opportunity to grab more authority and jump in front of the TV cameras. They made it about being their own superhero movie, instead of about public health - and then botched it.Mark Ungrin@mark-ungrin.bsky.socialYou do have to wonder how much of the politicization and division over COVID would have been avoided if the cosplay-science muppets making decisions had started with ventilation, then moved on to standards-compliant respirators (NOT medical masks), and saved vaccine mandates as a last resort. 180 8
drug doc @pkpd-babe.bsky.social · 20/07/2026I wore one outdoors when dropping my kids off at daycare (also masked outdoors), requesting they stay indoors unless AQI is acceptable. Even the person working at the front desk, saying he felt awful with the door opening hundreds of times during the day, didn’t wear one. 160 6
Tom (kid codger) O'Neill @doctecazoid.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Unpopularity be damned, my lungs can't take sustained exposure to an AQI of ~80 or higher. www.airnow.gov 0110 11
Bean & Sprout's Mom @beansproutsmom.bsky.social · 19/07/2026It is painful to grasp the missed opportunities to increase population level science literacy (and, ironically, the ability of people to personal-responsibility preventive healthcare). For starters, the science behind N95s is really cool! youtu.be/eAdanPfQdCA?...youtu.beThe Astounding Physics of N95 MasksYouTube video by minutephysics 2367 36
blackjerseygirl.bsky.social @blackjerseygirl.bsky.social · 19/07/2026I wore my N95 to take out the trash. The enclosure is a short distance from my door. I notice bed a woman walking her dog with no mask. She smiled at me; I glared at her. 020 2
Mx. Dizzy — Human Generated Em Dash @emexdizzy.bsky.social · 19/07/2026I'm tired of having people say "you can stop wearing a mask now". Like, yeah, nobody's making folks do it, so all the folks still doing it are doing it by choice, and you just feel guilty because of something that person didn't say literally at all. 0111 11
Hyde T. Voltyge @hydevoltyge.bsky.social · 19/07/2026The smoke back in 2023 was the first time anyone had ever asked to borrow from my supply of KN-95s. Even then, it was two people asking. I'll never understand why so many found it so inconvenient, I know the bad faith reasons, what I don't get is it being bothersome or tiring to so many. 2132 13
Sathen @sathen.bsky.social · 20/07/2026My wife and I broke out our masks for this, well truthfully we never really put them away. I have a powered mask and our mechanic saw me wearing it and wanted to know where I got it and how much it cost. 111 1
quaintandcurious.bsky.social @quaintandcurious.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Wore mine on my walk yesterday AM, at the grocery store on Friday, and when I was on the plane & public transport on Wednesday. I like being healthy, so sue me. 🫠 070 7
Andy Dimock @adimock.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Real as ableism is, this doesn’t make sense to me The toxic political discourse around masking during the COVID shutdown focused on performing masculinity, not being effeminate, defying the “nanny state,” accepting God’s will You can see this toxic masc working in sync with patriarchy (RFK) 121 2
Maroon Phoenix @maroonphoenix.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Completely agree. I saw our building’s maintenance staff outside just doing their thing in really hazardous air. I thought about offering free masks from my stock but then just didn’t. From previous interactions I know their politics. I wasn’t up for the negative interaction I might have received. 040 4
Ashley Rattner @ashleyrattner.bsky.social · 19/07/2026I wore a mask a couple times this spring because I was dying of allergies and everyone was like "That never even occurred to me as something you could do" ???????? 1212 21

Chelsea @chelseasprite.bsky.social · 19/07/2026It's surprising to me how many people said to me in the last few days "yeah. I should be wearing a mask too". Put one on! It's not hard! The bias and ignorance is astounding. 2483 48
