Vanishing and Endangered Cultures @nowaykgn.bsky.social · 14/07/2025Jingle Dress Dance is a Native North American women's pow wow dance. The regalia worn for this dance is the jingle dress, which includes ornamentation with multiple rows of metal cones that create a jingling sound as the dancer moves. 3466674 0
mumunge @mumunge.bsky.social · 14/07/2025Colorful costumes with cone-shaped bells. You can see how the outfits gradually become more elaborate. It's fascinating that this vision came to the grandfather in order to heal his granddaughter. A dance of healing and prayer— Surely, the beautiful sound of the bells must echo through the air. 240 0

Meanneighborlady @meanneighborlady.bsky.social · 14/07/2025I am here to point out that Native American cultures are not dying or vanishing (in noting your bio). In fact it is wonderful to see a massive resurgence of and evolution of languages, songs, art, stories and materials. There is no staid purity in non-Native culture. Ours evolve and expand too. 120 0

emilsea22 @emilsea22.bsky.social · 14/07/2025Great photos as always! Here in Salem, OR, we have a “World Beat” festival each June, celebrating the diverse world cultures, their customs, music, and dance. This year highlighted “Turtle Island”, the Americas, including these dancers. 2212 0
John Murrell @johnmurrell.bsky.social · 16/07/2025This brought back great memories of powwows at the Nett Lake Reservation in Northern Minnesota. The chorus of rhythmic jingling around the drum circle was hypnotizing. 231 0

tamisar @tamisar.bsky.social · 15/07/2025Every 1 of these is absolutely unique & gorgeous! What a beautiful traditional dress & indeed tradition itself. Those cones made from old tins-still w/marking on them-are almost more pretty for that added-perhaps intentional-“design,” each perfectly arranged when sewn on. Fantastic📸& history, K! 120 0
Renee Ondine (she/her) @reneeondine.bsky.social · 22/07/2025I live in Annishanabe lands, & jingle dresses are absolutely still being made, & the knowledge is still being passed down the generations. There's also an Ojibwe language immersion school in the region. They aren't made as much as other forms of regalia b/c they are very labor intensive to make. 120 0

poetrader.bsky.social @poetrader.bsky.social · 14/07/2025Some of the cones used to be made from the metal lids of chewing tobacco. Some of the tobacco could have been used as offering. 020 0
