muscle memory is really something, i had to get a new stepladder and this one is 6ft instead of 5 so it has one more step and i have fallen off it TWICE today bc i very confidently stepped down off what i thought was the last step and the ground was not there

i don’t have ANY of the bonus words so far in my wip but that’s probably bc i still haven’t gotten to their actual scene, we’re still in the middle of their weird weeks-long foreplay

He's trying to, at least, but he keeps getting distracted by his own image in the Zoom window next to Lucius's.
Specifically, by the piercing in his left ear, an understated, elegant little diamond in a gold setting that catches the light when he turns his head at just the right angle.
Ed had pierced it for him a few nights before, ice and a sharp needle and his bare thighs on either side of Stede's hips to pin him in place. Like two schoolgirls at a sleepover, or at some perverted fantasy of it, at least until Ed started murmuring filth in his ear about how he'd look once it healed and they could swap the post for the ear tag Ed had made for him. Shushing him, cooing soft calming nonsense, "shhh, sweetheart, I know, you're scared, but I have to do it, yeah? Need to tag you, let everyone know whose you are. Can't risk anyone else taking you home, thinking you're theirs, they won't take care of you like I will, it's for your own good, sweetheart, come on, just take it—" while Stede whined and bucked underneath him like the bull he wasn't yet pretending to be.

a little undernegotiated power exchange, in which ed tries to fatten stede up a bit before their upcoming cow insemination roleplay (it’s a whole thing)

On Saturday, they’re out to dinner and Stede is hemming and hawing trying to decide between a poached pear salad and a butternut squash risotto. They both do genuinely look good, is the thing, and although he’s aware he’s getting a little thicker around the middle these days, he’s also never been one to resist a bit of indulgence, and so he probably would have ended up getting the risotto of his own volition. But he never has the chance to find out, because Ed makes that considering little hum and then the waiter appears and Ed snaps his menu shut and says smoothly, “Duck confit for me, please, and my husband will have the risotto,” and then the waiter is gone and Ed is gazing at Stede with a perfectly pleasant expression but a sharp heat in his eyes, foot pressed against Stede’s under the table.

It keeps happening. Little nudges toward the richer, more indulgent option. A swap in the grocery cart that Stede doesn’t notice until checkout, a casual comment on a restaurant menu, “That sounds up your alley, doesn’t it, love?” Each time, Ed’s tone is light but his eyes are sharp and bright, like he’s daring Stede to disagree with him. Each time, Stede gazes back, feeling the twist of heat in his gut, and nods as dumbly as an animal. Yes, that does sound good. Yes, I’ll let you choose. Yes, I’ll have whatever you decide to give me.
