Fuck ChatGPT flyers. The future is broadsheets.
A crowded broadsheet with way too many fonts. It says:
Forget ChatGPT Flyers
Say it with
Broadsheets
Unlimited fonts
Stretch them
Or cram a really long sentence into one line for no good reason
No whitespace

Pointing hands

"The queer community’s organized political power does not have to fund the first Democrats willing to abandon us." We can take back Congress without compromising on our fundamental rights. 🔗https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/equality-pac-political-arm-of-congressional
“We can want Democrats to win and secure a Democratic majority while also recognizing that the queer community’s organized political power does not have to fund the first Democrats willing to abandon us,” said Tyler Hack, executive director of the Christopher Street Project, which also wields a PAC meant to fund campaign efforts to elect and retain unapologetically trans-allied politicians.

“It’s clear that the trans community needs independent political power that works to build a Democratic majority while ensuring our resources go to those who stand with us when it matters,” she said.

I want to leave you with a word of caution before we start looking at these tech business models in detail. It is very easy to fall into the trap of accepting industry hype at face value, and then criticizing that hype rather than reality – as professor of science, technology, and society Lee Vinsel puts it, “it’s as if [criti-hypers] take press releases from startups and cover them with hellscapes.” But criticizing hype rather than reality can unwittingly amplify that hype and distract us from technology’s real but more mundane harms. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be proactive and forward-looking: we absolutely should think about the downsides of realistic trajectories of technological development and use. But the word “realistic” is important here.

Criti-hype is a product of techno-solutionism because it uncritically assumes that technology will eventually do exactly what its boosters say it will, and then criticizes that. It fudges over present-day harms associated with the developing technology, and discounts the possibility that the technology is simply not capable of living up to the hype – not just that it’s just “early days,” but that the technology will never be able to deliver. Sometimes, the limitations of a particular technology can be hard to figure out in the moment, but sometimes they’re actually pretty clear if you care to look.

Pen, watercolor, black & white charcoal pencil.

Another featured piece from the Spooky Pants book.

A man in a sweater stands with his hands on his hips looking out of a large window with the curtains open. Things aren’t looking good outside, reader. A massive winged demon is emerging from the clouds as dozens of little ghosts and bone demons rip through the sky. On the ground below we see townsfolk running through the grass. Our man in the window is in no mood for this. He lets us know, “Oh, I am in no mood for this.” His dog looks out the window as well, wagging its tail.

Fantasia (1940) inspired drawing. I think I could’ve gone a little heavier with the chaos outside but we’ll try again with fresh drawings this October. I like how the clouds turned out. Trying to balance my sloppy lines with more detail can be tricky but I think we achieved a good result.

Accountability for political decisions rests with the politicians, who are the political decision makers. Groups of voters can be responsible for bad choices, but responding to the actual positions of a candidate throwing them under the bus isn’t such a case.

I like this whole thread, but particularly tbis. This is a version of a point I’ve been making in Dem politics constantly: A politician is responsible for their decision to alienate a portion of their base. Those voters are not responsible for refusing to support a candidate who abandoned them.

giuliani: "Muslims have every desire to take us over. They want to dominate us." news media: "Some have characterized Giuliani's comments as anti-Muslim."
ABC:
Mamdani is expected to become the first Muslim mayor to attend the city's official 9/11 remembrance ceremony, though nearly every New York City mayor before him has participated in the event.

The debate intensified over the weekend when former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, speaking on Newsmax, said he would be offended if Mamdani attended the ceremony. Giuliani also made claims that critics and others have described as baseless, including suggesting the mayor does not believe the Sept. 11 attacks were acts of terrorism. Some have characterized Giuliani's comments as anti-Muslim.
