Reading the other reviews once I’ve finished mine is always fun. The things people will ask of a *poster* submission in their reviews is wild. Like, if they do all that, they will have a whole ass journal article on their hands.

What if time spent on menial research tasks that could be automated actually functions to bring your mind into greater iconicity with the problem at hand, such that you would be able to make better use of your results beyond simply obtaining them?

Principle 1 has important implications: for example, it helps us understand how many seemingly different structures of language (e.g., syntax trees, semantic categories) can be unified in a geometric lingua franca that supports neural computation.

I think this is valuable! It is also an argument that is very commonly made, so I would not be contributing anything unique by highlighting it. The point I am making is one that is rarely made: the pressure to be practical at all times is dangerous to our humanity.

Causal Graph Editing Gives Rise to Ensoulment of LLMs
John de Selby, Second McAuthor
For the purposes of this paper, an LLM, M1, has a ‘soul’ when it exceeds 95% on the Ensoulment Benchmark while a stronger model, M2, which has been exposed to the same training data as M1 achieves a lower score on the benchmark. By using the term ‘soul’ we don’t mean to suggest that LLMs have any possess worth, an enduring self, or the capacity to survive death.

I did an experiment today at the start of two courses I coordinate. I showed this personal statement about the world I would like to see. I did it to open a discussion about genuine desire for a different world, and how we self-censor this, even to ourselves, for fear of being naive or unrealistic.

Pretty much no one can make their ideas clear to others on the 1st attempt. The two main reactions are "let's painstakingly clarify this with some back and forth", and "doesn't matter as long as the various interpretations are themselves interesting", leading to the 2 main branches of philosophy.

i think regardless of who has authored a paper, we (the scientific community) can and should stop criticizing the work on lack of perceived novelty. we can do better than perpetuating harmful myths about individual scientific papers having to present a discovery no one has ever thought of before.
