The extraordinary 3,000 year-old ‘Berlin Gold Hat’! One of four known cone-shaped golden ‘hats’ from ancient Europe. Sheet gold decorated with bands of solar and lunar motifs, which may represent calendars according to latest research. Neues Museum, Berlin 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a very tall, slender, conical gold object known as the Berlin Gold Hat, displayed against a dark museum background. At the top end, the tall slender cone narrows to a pointy tip.
At the bottom it widens into a rounded base with a broad flat brim. It is made of very thin hammered sheet gold, the entire surface of which is embossed with horizontal bands of decoration. Repeated motifs of concentric circles, disks, ovals, and other symbols, are thought to represent the sun and moon. According to latest research this may represent solar and lunar calendars. It is dated to the late Bronze Age, c. 1000-800 BC. It is 74 cm tall and weighs 480 gms. On display at Neues Museum, Berlin. It is one of only four known golden ‘hats’ from ancient Europe. Three from Germany and one from France.

Exquisite c. 20,000-year-old laurel leaf point. Expertly worked, this beautiful Solutrean-era flint tool is 28 cm long and 1 cm thick, with edges so wafer thin they’re translucent! ✨ From Volgu, France. Musée d'Archéologie nationale Saint-Germain-en-Laye 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a flint tool known as a laurel-leaf point. This is a bifacial flint tool, named after its symmetrical shape similar to that of a laurel leaf. It is skilfully knapped from a block of pale, translucent flint. It is 28 cm long and 1 cm thick, with edges so wafer thin they are translucent. It shows no signs of use damage. It is dated to the Solutrean period of the Upper Paleolithic. On display at the Musée d'Archéologie Nationale, Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

It was found in a cache of 16 expertly crafted laurel leaf points at Volgu, a site in Rigny-sur-Arroux, Saône-et-Loire, France. Thirteen of the laurel leaf points from the Volgu cache are in the collections of the Musée Vivant Denon, Chalon-sur-Saône, France and there is also a Volgu point in the collections at the British Museum.

Happy Monday! Here are two lovely little owls decorating an ancient Greek ceramic drinking cup made in Athens around 2,500 years ago! 🦉❤️ Louvre, Paris 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a close-up of the neck of an ancient Greek pottery drinking cup decorated with two red-figure owls on a black slip background. The owls stand with their bodies in profile facing each other, heads turned full-face towards the viewer. The owl details are painted black. Each owl has two large round eyes consisting of a black dot inside a thick black circle. The folded wings are painted in outline, and black dots represent feathers on their wings and bodies. Below this red-figure decoration on the neck of the drinking cup, the main body of the cup (not seen) is moulded in the shape of an owl! Total cup height: 27.5 cm. Diameter 11.7 cm. Dated c. 460-450 BC.

HAPPY EASTER! Here are four mixed media cards I made some time ago. Each card is just 3½" by 4½", so some of the pieces were VERY small! More information in ALT. #handmade #myowndesign #mixedmedia #greetingscards #Easter
Mostly made from material, with the shoes and handbag being cut out from old magazines, and the eye was a tiny black bead. The background is red and green mottled paperThe chick and hat were made from materials, and the shoes were cut out from an old magazine. The eye is a tiny black bead and the collage is placed on green and red marbled paperThis chick was made from materials, apart from the flower which is a sequin, and the eyes which are tiny black beads. It is placed on some yellow and green marbled paperThe final chick was totally made from materials, apart from the eyes which were tiny black beads. The background is green/grey textured paper

As soon as I saw this little puppy's face, I knew exactly what picture I wanted to make. Photo shows a brown, black and white puppy wearing a cream hat with a black band. He is sitting in an upturned glass lampshade, in the sea. I wanted to give the impression of it being the end of the day, so chose a sky with the setting sun, which is repeated in the colour of the sea. All items were cut out from old magazines, and placed in a white oval-aperture card.

Today's #FebruArty theme is #Float, so I immediately thought of another of my #papercollage cards. It's entitled 'Jumble Sails' and each element was cut out from old magazine pictures #myowndesign #handmade #recycling #oldmagazines #savedfromlandfill #ilovepuns
Picture of a boat with a black mast and random patchwork sails. At the top of the mast is a flag depicting a golden sun with a 'face' and the rays resembling hair. The boat is plain red, and the sea is different colours of blue water. Because the sails were quite 'busy', I set the boat against a cloudless dark blue sky. This picture was then set into a square-aperture white card
