Interesting sky this morning, with wispy clouds, expanding vapour trails plus a couple of small aeroplanes creating new vapour trails. Photo taken with my pocket Kodak camera from an upstairs window #sky #clouds #vapourtrails
Photo shows a blue sky with wispy white clouds, large white vapour trails plus two small aeroplanes creating new vapour trails. The tops of green trees are shown at the bottom of the photo

The extraordinary 3,000 year-old ‘Berlin Gold Hat’! One of four known cone-shaped golden ‘hats’ from ancient Europe. Sheet gold decorated with bands of solar and lunar motifs, which may represent calendars according to latest research. Neues Museum, Berlin 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a very tall, slender, conical gold object known as the Berlin Gold Hat, displayed against a dark museum background. At the top end, the tall slender cone narrows to a pointy tip.
At the bottom it widens into a rounded base with a broad flat brim. It is made of very thin hammered sheet gold, the entire surface of which is embossed with horizontal bands of decoration. Repeated motifs of concentric circles, disks, ovals, and other symbols, are thought to represent the sun and moon. According to latest research this may represent solar and lunar calendars. It is dated to the late Bronze Age, c. 1000-800 BC. It is 74 cm tall and weighs 480 gms. On display at Neues Museum, Berlin. It is one of only four known golden ‘hats’ from ancient Europe. Three from Germany and one from France.

1/2 This is really worrying. I have been doing family history research for a long, long time, when I had to go up to Somerset House to search for information. It was before personal computers, so the only way to find information was to see a paper document

2/2 Thankfully, I have paper copies of all the relevant births, marriages & deaths, plus info from census records. If I do venture onto Ancestry, I am very wary of any new information, and will try to verify it from a variety of sources. I do feel for anyone starting their researches now

For #internationaldogday, here's 'Doggy Paddle', a paper collage card made from old magazine pictures. The sea looks a bit rough but he'll make it to safety! #papercollage #greetingscard #recyclingoldmagazines #savedfromlandfill #myowndesign
A terrier dog wearing a tin helmet, using a red and white striped beaker as a boat and a fork handle as a paddle. The sky is blue with a little white cloud, and the sea, made from curved strips of paper sea, looks rather rough

Ditto! Bumper crop of apples & blackberries last year, all cooked & in the freezer. Another good crop of blackberries this year, so more in the freezer, but the apples this year desperately need rain, so they're falling off while they're still small

Exquisite c. 20,000-year-old laurel leaf point. Expertly worked, this beautiful Solutrean-era flint tool is 28 cm long and 1 cm thick, with edges so wafer thin they’re translucent! ✨ From Volgu, France. Musée d'Archéologie nationale Saint-Germain-en-Laye 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a flint tool known as a laurel-leaf point. This is a bifacial flint tool, named after its symmetrical shape similar to that of a laurel leaf. It is skilfully knapped from a block of pale, translucent flint. It is 28 cm long and 1 cm thick, with edges so wafer thin they are translucent. It shows no signs of use damage. It is dated to the Solutrean period of the Upper Paleolithic. On display at the Musée d'Archéologie Nationale, Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

It was found in a cache of 16 expertly crafted laurel leaf points at Volgu, a site in Rigny-sur-Arroux, Saône-et-Loire, France. Thirteen of the laurel leaf points from the Volgu cache are in the collections of the Musée Vivant Denon, Chalon-sur-Saône, France and there is also a Volgu point in the collections at the British Museum.
